It's an appropriate term, and it doesn't carry any negative connotation in, and of, itself. Do you think that god is specifically male or female...or human?

Kayla - that's exactly my question...why is it rude? You don't refer to people as "it", so are you saying god is a person? That's what I'm trying to get at....

I personally think of God as the creative energy that powers this existence. That is an It to me - or the Universe. I do try to call it He or She depending upon the beliefs of the person I am speaking to - people are more receptive when you speak on their terms it seems - but to me, it's an it.

Peace!

PS - I think it's presumptive to think of God as male or female. There is no way to know the Unknowable. The existence of an entity capable of powering, let alone single handedly creating, this existence must be of a nature that is unfathomable from this vantage point - though it could appear as anything it would want to, right? And any time it is put forth as parental is condescending in my opinion. What are we babies? "Here is a great big energy - you call it daddy."

No, it's not offensive at all. To me, anyway. It is an IT. It's not male or female (though I believe it carries the attributes of each gender - Nurturing, I think of a woman.... whereas Strength as in war and protection, I think of a man *shrug*) It certainly isn't human... if it was, I would have proven my beliefs a loooooooong time ago. =)

The reason masculine pronouns are used in the Old Testament is that Hebrew has no neuter case. Jews accept their "God" as neither male nor female, but pure spirit beyond any physicality.

it truly relies upon on the guy you're chatting with. an clever guy or woman (in assessment to the ignorant a** who published up close to the the ideal option) could attempt to comprehend the justifications why/why no longer a guy or woman prefers or dislikes being referred to as something. often, in spite of if a black guy or woman does no longer desire to be referred to as african-american, you have a smaller threat of having some sort of reprimand than in case you have been to apply an epithet or slur. as a scientist, i embody the use of genotypes/phenotypes interior the define of a guy or woman. exceptionally once you think approximately the unique purpose of distinguishing human beings with the aid of using "races".

When people refer to the Holy Spirit as "it", it does bother me. The Holy Spirit is a person just as the Father and Jesus Christ are.

it's not right to call God "it" because that sounds like he's not a living being. If you want to say God is neither male or female it's better to say "he or she" maybe. I don't like it when someone says "it" referring to God. It sounds condescending

Yes, very. 'It' refers to something that exists, god is imaginary, not even comparable.

I thin god is a male. Since he is the father god, father of Jesus Christ. Mary is the mother of Jesus. And we all know it takes a man and a women to have a baby, or leader of the world. duh!
