I know that marathons are for people who are exceptionally active and fit, but is running TOO many of them bad for your health?

The main danger I can see is the possibility of damage to your joints. The reason many runners eventually suffer joint damage is because running is a high impact from of exercise and the different types of foundations you are running on (roads, gravel, etc).

Be sure to wear very good running shoes and to consume a lot of water. The running shoes will lessen your chance of injury and joint issues. The water will prevent dehydration and heat related issues. Also, do not participate if you are ill. Good luck!
