hi.. i don't know what else to say except that perhaps you and your husband might consider finding him an assisted living housing unit?

he needs to be around other adults.

he is not "thinking clearly" if he thinks a two year old does not make a mess when they eat. you could remind him that 2 year olds aren't very neat, and she will learn with age... and not to worry about her manners, that you can clean up the mess.

ugh! i feel for you! hugz

Well, I am going to tell you that 55 is not old. I am 53 and I can play with children, let them crawl in my lap, run with them, etc. Is there something wrong with him? Does he have a physical illness?

Maybe your husband can talk to him since it is his father. You and your husband need to raise your 2 year old as you see fit. You are right, she can make a mess, she will learn.

Good luck with this, it doesn't sound like a good situation you have. Hopefully his living with you is just a short term solution.

i would say to him in the nicest way possible...."Dad (or what ever you call him) Alexis is my child and this is my house and you are here out of the kindness of our hearts, I would really appreciate it if you don't correct her, unless it is a matter of her harming herself, other wise it is my job. Also if you don't want Alexis in your lap because it hurts you, please tell me and I will do my best as to not allow her to climb on you. Let me remind you she is two and she is at a very vulnerable age and I don't want ugliness to be an influence on her, if you can not contain yourself we may have to look at another living situation."
