If you wanted to buy a gun, but didn't think you'd pass the evaluation, just buy it from a friend who did pass.
There are enough guns available right now that if all gun stores would close for years, anybody wanting one should have no problem finding it.

Not practical. There were plenty of opportunities for the mental health community to deal with the shooter and that failed. He was given many chances as happens in a free society. Now when he said something stupid if a white student had punched him out, that student would have been expelled with much fanfare. We tolerate to much

I am all for testing, background checks whatever...
The bottom line is this, if you are normal, not crazy, dont break the law, and just your every day law abiding citizen then I think you should be able to purchase firearms and even carry them given the right kind of license.
Whats going to happen is one day the normal people that normally dont break the law are just going to start breaking the law and carry the weapons they think will protect them.
You cannot realistically provide protection to everyone who needs it 24/7.
Ultimately people MUST have the ability to defend themselves.
In this case some @sshole walked into what is supposed to be a "gun-free" zone and simply murdered 32 people.
Where is your stupid hippy gun-free UTOPIA now?
Take away peoples ability to defend themselves and you just make them victims.
I dont really care what kind of liberal gun control laws they might decide to come up with now, I am going to do what I think is prudent to my safety given my situation, and there is no law or hippy liberal bullshit that is going to stop me.
I do not need the government or people in ivory towers trying to tell me how I need to live my life, or that I cannot protect myself.
Take your laws, and just f-u-ck off. I dont hurt people, I have no criminal record, and I should have the ability to defend myself and my family by any means I deem necessary.

Well, there are several issues with that-- medical privacy being one of them. Second, it is a point in time event. I could pass a psych eval today but could lose my mind 6 months from now after I already have a weapon.
There is no silver bullet (no pun intended) to keeping weapons out the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

The evaluation would have to be performed by a licensed professional who is bound by law not to disclose the patients information or diagnosis.
