...by someone you don't know.

You've heard of the authors of the book, but never met them. You've heard that the book contains all the solutions to all the problems in the world, but not actual solutions to actual problems, just anecdotes which help one work through general ones and relate to others. You know that the book was not written in your native tongue, with all its associated idiom and idiosyncrasies, but rather has been translated and handed down by many long-dead people over many centuries.

The person who is handing you the book tells you that God wrote the book, and that you must embrace it at face value and live by it.

Do you?

People who read and accept the Bible as God's word do this everyday.

The clever wording of your question really highlights why it is so difficult to share Christian faith... it sounds like a far-fetched fairy tale. Only thing is, the Bible has something that other books don't... the revelation of the truth buried in every man's heart.

Very clever. *smile*

Well, obviously since you are referring to the scriptures, you should read them for yourself and determine what you feel about them. Do you feel some things could help you? Do you feel peace? Confusion? Have you prayed? If you are searching for any kind of spirituality then you need to explore all options and determine which one you feel most comfortable with and which you feel could help better you as a person. If you are not searching for spirituality, then put the book down, and any others you may be given in the future, and don't bother.

Is this a trick question? Are you referring to some type of joke book, or a novel. I will try to answer: I would probably read the first few pages, and then I would read the last few pages, and then guess if what was in the middle was worth reading. - sorry, my answer was not very logical, but I was just giving you an honest answer.

I would probably tell him that the book is a large amount of a brown disgusting semi-solid substance that has been eliminated from the digestive tract of a sexually functional male bovine.

I get your point but the delusion of the foolish can be very convincing when you have large numbers. Just look at network marketing.

To the person's face, sure.

Then I'd run like hell and call the men in the white jackets.
