You got to beat them to the punch, start whining about your life as soon as they walk in.

Or go to their house and start whining

You must be very sympathetic....I have the same thing happening to me....but I don't really consider it a problem....people seek out those who might help them....it doesn't mean you are rich, just that you care about other people.

I really would like to answer this question, but have a problem I am hoping you can help me with.

You see, I have been spending allot of time on this yahoo answers forum, so much that it is causing me to loose focus at work. What should I do?

It's you! It's your sympathetic, empathetic, kind nature. If you're sick of it, you'll have to withdraw from them or tell them you're not there for them. I used to be like this as well. I could be sitting any place, bar, restaurant, wherever and I would have strangers come up to me and tell me their problems. I know it's very annoying.

when they stop by, interupt their 'problems' with a list of things they can help you with while they are telling you stuff... have a grocery list of things you need and tell them you really need help, can they just run you to the store and buy this stuff for you while you help them with their problems?

Are you asking them "How are you doing," when you really mean "I am glad to see you."?
