If you are in a relationship with someone who you know is only with you and that person is STD free and you are too, she could take a birth control pill, apply a weekly birth control patch, get the birth control shot, or you two could use a diaphram (I'm not sure if I spelled that right)...And of course there are the old fashioned condoms...But like everyone always says, abstinence is the safest sex...But anyway, feel free to ask your girlfriend to set up an appointment with her gyno and let you go with her so you can discuss the topic with her and her doctor...Whatever you do...Be safe and have fun!!

Actually thsi is no longer something I have to worry about, because I had surgery and had a tubal sterilization in 2003. However when I did have to consider these things I used the birth control pill as well as condoms. Teh pill will protect against the pregnancy issue and it is 99.99% effective in doing so. However, I used condoms to prevent STDs, and did so until I was engaged. Tehn it was just the pill which worked great.

With a new bf with whom I want to be physically intimate, the first thing that I use is condom with spermicidal jelly. There's a small risk of pregnancy still, but I have not had that happen. Further into the relationship, I'll go on the pill so we can do away with the condom.

The best way is to abstain.
However if you like me...condoms are the best way to go.
There easy to buy, there are no side effects, and they work better then birth control. I was on birth control, however I gained weight, my sex drive went down and I got really bitchy.
It is really up to you and your partner. Just be safe.

I am on the birth control patch (for other reasons too, not just as birth control), but I also make sure a condom is used.
