do dogs spray like cats to mark territory? my dog has been spraying the same corner even though he is potty trained. will neutering help stop this? if i do get him neutered, what can i expect as far as behavior wise? he's a very sweet dog and want to do what's best for him but also want to be well informed. thank you!!
note:I have two other dogs that are spayed.

When a dog is left intact, he becomes overwhelmed with hormones (much like a human teenager) which seem to control his actions from the time puberty sets in (around 6mo.)
Un-neutered dogs will display territorial behaviors such as marking with urine, aggression towards others, mounting and humping behaviors, and roaming to find a female in heat. Remaining intact also predisposes them to cancers like prostate and testicular cancer which greatly shortens their lifespan.
Neutering your dog will help immensely with the spraying behavior, although if he has been doing this for a while you will need to work on it with some training as well. Neutering will NOT change his personality... this is a myth. It will NOT make him: aggressive, fearful, lazy, or "un-manly', as many people fear it will. The only behavioral changes that will occur are those associated to the production of testosterone- aggression, territorial behavior, and unrelenting sex drive.
Please make the appointment to get your dog neutered. It is a very safe procedure that will add years to his life and give you and your mother a break from all the scrubbing.

Yes, dogs mark their territory also. It depends on the age of your dog. If your dog just started doing this, neutering will probably do the trick.
Good luck!

Yes, male dogs ''mark'' just like male cats do. Neutering him MIGHT stop the problem, but there's no guarantee. If you neuter him and the problem persists, then look into training to learn the way to prevent it.

Neutering animals removes behaviour that is sexually orientated, but not all unwanted behaviour. Spraying behaviour may be eliminated as it's usually territoriality as a result of sex hormones.
Bear in mind that the number one reason for neutering an animal is for their health (prevents prostate and testicular cancer in male dogs and reduces the risk of bladder problems). It is not a procedure for altering behaviour, and it doesn't guarantee that behaviour will be altered. He may 'calm down' generally, but I've seen many dogs that remain just as insane for years after being castrated - so don't do it for the behaviour, do it for his health!

It is marking territory. You need to do some training exercises to stop that. As for fixing the dog : do it. If you are not a breeder, and dont want any one havin puppies get the dog fixed. for train advice: reptileden0@yahoo.com

Neutering will not end the lifting of the leg in particular areas of their "territory". I can't stand it either but it's just a dog thing.

#1 Yes
#2 Yes unless it has become a behavioral issue.(like he's been doing it for 5 years)
#3 He's charms will not diminish when he is neutered. It is the best thing for him.

Clean the area with "Nature's Miracle" to eliminate the odor of his urine. You can find it at someplace like Petsmart. This will help.
