Yesterday when my teacher was proofreading the French essay that is due the next class period, she stumbled upon one word that she didn't know what I meant, and I casually told her that, "oh, my friend said it was the word for bookshelf." And then she paused, after like 10 seconds she said, "a French friend helped you write this?" And I don't even know what I was thinking, but without thinking, I just said, "yeah."
Which now I feel so bad, because first of all, my friend only proofread it for me, correcting all the errors. Now it seems like someone is actually helping me do an assignment, and it seems like I am cheating!
I guess I just care for her impression of me. For this past one year and a half I have been taking French, I have been doing really well, and I just don't want her to think that the only reason i am doing so well is because someone is helping me.
I am just very confused right now, I'd appreciate a lot if you guys can tell me if I indeed am just thinking too much.

While I agree that explaining would clear the whole thing up, I was thinking, wouldn't explaining, and adding more information to her, seem like I am guilty? I mean, there really is no way you can prove if I indeed did the whole work by myself, it just seems fruitless to me that I am explaining to her?
