There are a number of severe cranial deformaties that will result in a child incapable of functioning without the umbillical cord and a delivery that might kill the mother.
The idea that some lawyer that never even had to take Freshman Biology can make medical decisions for you should scare the heck out of you.

There has only been one case I've heard of where I considered it justified. The baby was growing in the womb, but it had an irreversible condition where it's brain was growing outside of it's body. The baby was physically alive, but had virtually no brain function, and they knew it would most likely not even survive the birthing process. Even if it did, it would have been dead within minutes. The family was devastated by the loss of their child, but made the decision to end the pregnancy late-term.
There might be other cases similar to this where the family is really left with no choice.

It's a catch 22. If one had to choose between a mom and a baby's life the logical (but excruciating) choice would be for the mother. With the mother a new baby could be created. Tough question though as it asks which life is more important. Never a question I would want to have to answer under those circumstances.

How is it any worse than just chopping the fetus up while still inside the uterus?
I'm beginning to wonder how much justification there is for abortion at all.

Yes... if the mother's life is threatened and the baby will not survive, when the fetus has miscarried or when the baby is very deformed and would have no chance for a life.
Besides, it's not up to us to decide these things... it's up to the woman and her medical professional.

Christians will oppose abortions, even if the product looks like something delivered by a meat grinder.

While our stomachs might not bear the thought, hydroencephalytus (I think thats how its spelled...) is a valid reason... Basically, the procedure wouldnt exist unless there was a valid need for it. Right??

Absolutely!!! In any and all cases where the health and welfare of the mother is involved.
What, don't you pro-lifers care whether the mother lives or not? Aren't their lives worth saving? How pro-life is that?
Get real, honestly.

Sure there is, "I was really busy and couldn't get to an abortion clinic for 26 weeks."
