If the Roman Catholic Church invented Indulgences to remove the punishment from sin (and collect monies), how can a mere human man on this earth remove the punishment from sin by allowing one to do good works when God, at His appointed time will ultimately be Judge and Jury over that person?

Did God ask man to invent a way to pay retribution? If so, where is it in the Bible?

I know that if we do something wrong we are to truly repent and confess our sins and God will forgive us. Total forgiveness is as if the event never happened, erased, gone. So why do you have to pay retribution through good works? I don't get it.

I guess I am hung up on "paying retribution for my sin."

Like others have said on here. If you truly repent of your sins the Lord is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you of all unrighteousness according to 1 John 1:9. Any sin you commit has it's consequence to it. But as far as good works, we are saved by grace and not good works. Yet at the same time, if you are made holy through salvation, then you have died from your sinful nature according to Rom 6:6, and the only thing which remains of you is the Christ in you. Seeing that Christ now lives in you, you do by nature those things which Christ did while He lived in the earth. It is a learning and growing process. That's the whole purpose of salvation is to redeem you back to God and that you would reflect God and His character in the earth.

I first read about indulgences during the time of Martin Luther where the Pope at the time, had a passion for certain 'toys' and needed to get the money for them. He therefore offered indulgences to have all sins, past, present and future forgiven for a certain amount of money. Often, the church goers were so poor, but they gave the money anyway because they felt they had to in order to get to heaven.
The bible also says that works don't get you to heaven. There is only one way and it is Jesus Christ. Once you are saved, you will want to follow God's commands and do His will. At the day of judgement we will be judged according to our works, which means, what I did in order to glorify God. If I am a born again person, would I not want to share this but sit at home and keep all to myself. That's what God will look at.

They did that hundreds of years ago b/c the rulers of the church at the time were greedy money wanters. Martin Luthor sick of it wrote some book about all the sins in secret and posted a note on the front door of the main church. Then he went into hiding with a help of a friend thus starting Luthornism.

Jam 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy:

The Catholic Church admits they changed the Holy Seventh Day Sabbath and Holy Feast days to the celebration of Sunday, the first day of the week, and the celebration of pagan holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and Halloween. Sunday worship and the celebration of pagan holidays are condemned in your bible. In spite of the curses pronounced in the Holy Scriptures, the religious world continues to follow the Catholic Church in her rebellion against Yahweh's Laws.

Daniyl 7:25—
And he will speak great words against Yahweh, and will wear out; mentally attack to cause to fall away, the saints of Yahweh, and think to change the Feasts and holy days, and Laws; and they will be given into his hand until a time, and times, and the dividing of time.

This religion changes Yahweh's Laws. Remember, she devours the whole earth which means she has changed the Laws of Yahweh in the minds of all people on earth. That's exactly what the last revelation given to mankind shows is the case for this time period. The teaching that mankind does not need to keep or adhere to the inspired Laws of Yahweh has been placed in the minds of all who dwell on the earth in this generation. They have been taught to accept and partake in a mixture of righteousness and evil, which is the same teaching Cain, being led by Satan, presented.

The roman catholics invented many things to make money. None of it had to do with god or religion. You are confusing making money with god and religion, and making money was the primary focus of the roman catholic church from its inception.

God forgives the truly penitent one, but he still has to pay for his sin. Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.

You may have to pay back to society for a crime, but your sin will be blotted out in God's mind, where it counts most.

Money and "good works" will get you nowhere fast with God.

"Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit". Nothing you can do makes you worthy of God, we are saved by Grace, not works.
