This really peeves me. No method of contraception is 100% effective - don't tell me "abstinence," I'm talking about grown up people in the real world. Condoms break - that's what happened to me.

Unfortunately suing the manufacturer wouldn't solve the problem now would it?

Peri - no such thing as the morning after pill at the time I'm talking about.

I know several people who used IUD's (99.9% effective) and still got pregnant. I know people who used IUD's AND condoms and still got pregnant.

People should know that they can't always blame the mother, calling her an irresponsible, compulsive turbo sl.ut.

If you knew right after sex that the condom broke get the morning after pill the next day. That would help. The morning after pill isn't an abortion as some people would have you believe. It's basically just high doses of the birth control pill. I think you can even get the morning after pill on the second day.

You might want to think about going on the pill as a backup method in case you have any more condoms break. There are other options as well, They have those hormone implants but I'm not sure how much those cost. Talk to your doctor.

What about people who are married or in a committed relationship? My husband and I have been together over 20 years, and we don't want children. Are you saying that our marriage should be celibate until after I go through menopause so that there's no chance of an accidental pregnancy?

Yes we have heard of accidents and so what? Should we say stop using birth control because sometimes accidents happen? Besides if I was a women today, at least two forms would be used at all times. Condom and the pill for example.

No. Suing the maufacturer would be a pretty tough case to prove anyhow.

Murphy's Law, nothing is impossible and anyone who thinks that it will never happen to them is misguided. As humans we are given free will and many choose abstinence and others use the many forms of birth control.

I would rather tell someone who has chosen to have sexual relations to use some type of birth control than to continue to encourage them to practice abstinence. So if someone is an advocate of abstinence and comes across someone who doesn't want to go that route, I think they should continue to try and help them by telling them about birth control. But like you said nothing is 100% effective.

There is also vasectomy and tubal ligation, but I agree and have already said in here that "birth control" outside of tested surgical means isn't 100% effective all of the time, and I'm against the abstinence junk, but there is far more to it... which is why I am pro-choice in this society... because for me to foist my views of "ethical behavior in the Western world" which is dualistic and ego-centric by philosophy isn't easily understood nor always accepted.

My philosophy wee-wees on a lot of philosophies including that of modern "Christianity" as a Buddhist.

Yes, I've heard of accidents, and it happened to me. I got pregnant on the pill during a time in my life when it was a bad situation to have a baby. My husband didn't want a baby and we almost got a divorce. But you know what? We worked it out and I cannot imagine my life without my older daughter and he loves our daughter. My daughter considers her dad her hero.

So, in a nutshell, life might have been more convenient for me if I had not had a child, but I also would have missed out on a lot. And so would my daughter.

You're right. No form of birth control is 100% effective. And if you're married or in a relationship, then abstinence really isn't reasonable.

People certainly should use birth control, since abortions are a drain on medical resources, and not a very pleasant situation for anyone involved. But, as you say, people can still get pregnant. And even if someone gets pregnant without birth control, it's not very helpful to tell them what they should have done.

Condoms break, abstinence has been PROVEN not to work, orphanages are very full so yeah, abortions are needed in some cases. but hey, i'm also saying they should be done before a certain time.
