As a Jehovah's Witness, I go door to door, trying to help those who have no hope for the future. Showing these from the bible why they can have hope for a better tomorrow.
I find though that a lot of people are home but refuse to come to the door. The front door sometimes will be wide open and I can see shadows of people but no one answers. Why is this the case? Why are people so adverse to speaking with us? Sometimes when people come to the door we have a very nice conversation- sometimes it turn out to be just a conversation about likes/dislikes. Do we scare you?

BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR BULS**T
How dare you try to push your beliefs, your OPINIONS, on people. I hope you get hit by a bus or bitten by a dog next time you go out to "preach"
bocasbeachbum:
Because you are pretentious and arrogant. "Trying to help those who have no hope for the future" You may think what you are doing is good, but many people don't want garbage shoved down their throats and then be told they will burn in hell if they do not agree with you. I would not want to talk to you either.

I don't talk to telemarketers, so why should I talk with your kind?

J.P.:
I don't hide.
I do my best to make sure any JW dumb enough to come to my house leaves an atheist. I am very patient and very willing to use my time studying as a priest prior to my reverting to atheist to make sure they look at all angles of the Bible and realize what junk it is.
It's quite disturbing to watch them leave in tears. But quite satisfying to do something to make the world a better place.
One theist down... too many to go.
Deke:
Would you allow an atheist to have his say if he came knocking at your door, proselytizing?
Didn't think so, thanks for the 2 points.

Take a hint......use your intelligence, get educated, research information other than from the Watchtower Society (ok, here I am telling you do something that the elders will call you into their judicial committee for). By doing this you will find that most of their criticism on other religions are inaccurate, some of their interpretations are false, and other things that the WBTS do not want you to know.

Thank you for your honesty. I was fully aware that in asking my question I would be rewarded with hatred on the whole. I think it's sad- "hope you get hit by a bus or bitten by a dog", "pretentious and arrogant... preaching about hell"- We don't even believe hell exists so why would we say that's where your going?
"Your kind" hmmm, human?
Oh, and the "take the hint comment"- I refuse to respond.
Well, thanks for being honest. Happily not all out there feel the way you do. 6 million Witnesses world wide- 16 million attended the memorial of Christs death. That's 10 million that are not JW's. So if it's all the same to you I'm going to keep at it.

(2 Timothy 4:2-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories.
(2 Timothy 1:7-15) For God gave us not a spirit of cowardice, but that of power and of love and of soundness of mind. 8 Therefore do not become ashamed of the witness about our Lord... For this very cause I [the apostle Paul] am also suffering these things, but I am not ashamed. ...You know this, that all the men ...have turned away from me [and my preaching]

People hide for various reasons
(1) They have tried tactfully to tell you they are not interested, then you ask, "what aren't you interested in?" and try to continue to conversation (here and following, I say 'you' but I mean JW's in general not YOU specifically)
(2) They have tried tactfully to not call on them again, but you continue
(3) They do not know exactly how to get you to stop visiting them.
(4) Some people are just rude
(5) You don't scare people, you BOTHER them
(6) People don't want to listen to false prophets, just as you don't like to talk to apostates, disfellowshipped people etc.
Take a hint......use your intelligence, get educated, research information other than from the Watchtower Society (ok, here I am telling you do something that the elders will call you into their judicial committee for). Think for yourself, ask God for his blessings on your research and open you heart and mind.

I'm afraid of being wrong. I also have a fear of beautiful women because they usually call the police when I try to start the conversation.

Do you enjoy it if a telemarketer phones you? Do you talk to all sales persons which go from door to door? Do you answer the phone or the door to every one of them?
Also how should they know you are a harmless person? Children will have been told not to open the door to strangers, and would you want it otherwise?
Or there is something else they rather be doing than talking to you. They are not interested and you should respect that.

Sometimes it is just inconvenient to have someone drop by.
I am convinced that Jehovah's Witness's are the true religion, however I don't think people are receptive to receiving the information being offered to them when they are put on the defensive by people invading their privacy. That is the only aspect I don't approve of in this religion.
I am just beginning to study, but that is my opinion for now.

Don't take it personal. Sometimes folks are busy and would rather not be interupted. People do have the right to protect their privacy. Maybe they don't want to be bothered. Maybe they've heard your message before.

Do you imagine that I have not heard your message before?
I have read your Watchtower and Awake!
I have discussed beliefs with your fellows and found that they cannot comprehend my lack of belief in your God.
And so, out of courtesy, I no longer answer. Because I think there may be someone else that will benefit from hearing their words that they could be talking to. Instead of showing their lack of understanding of comparative religion to me.
