think about it first. i know most people think defending your country is more dignified and honorble but both of them is simply serving your countries interest. there is a downside to defending it too, e.g. you are poorly equiped and its likely you will be given a bad name like terorrists or insurgents. like they are in many countries.

h h is right, how can a country be any good to it's people if they dont care about it, if all they want is to take the good things and when the country needs them in the front line they say its not moraly right. however in the case of USA i am not sure, since fighting for your country has become fighting for coorporations.

If you are referring to Iraq, how is blowing up women and children at a market with a carbomb defending your country?

Expand.
Defending would mean my family would be at risk.
I'm all for war that moves us along financially. Every war in history was fought to move a country along financially.
Plus: when you're defending you have access to your stockpiles of weapons, you are dug in, and you have everything the enemy has to get shipped in.
Taking a defensive position is alot harder than defending. The standard in the army for taking a defensive position is 3-1. Yes. If there are two people in a defensive position, it takes at least 6 soldiers to take them out.
I was once playing OPFOR (Opposition Forces) in a paintball training exercise with ROTC. Our defensive position took out 8 of the 15 people who attacked us. That was 2 vs 15.
It was just me and the Col. They even attacked us from the back and we kicked their butts.

I'll die to protect my family and my community as a whole. As far as defending this country?? The freedom of its people - for sur. The government, probably not - I'd kind like to replace most of it with people who actually have some sense and morals and values.

I remember all the accounts of the American colonial army blowing up churches and markets and schools, killing thousands of women and children, and cutting off the heads of captured British soldiers and sympathizers, don't you?
You mean, that isn't how one defends one's country? Imagine that!

Either..doesnt matter to me.
Like the rest of the men in my family when they were my age I am at my country's disposal.
Some people think that attitude is stupid today. I think its that very kind of attitude that made the USA such a great place to begin with.

You wouldn't be called a terrorist if you didn't routinely target civilain women and children indiscriminantly.
You wouldn't be called a terrorist if you treated your captives with even the most basic human decency.

If anybody is going to die for his country it's going to be the other guy. I'm going to get him before he gets me.

I would never die to protect this country. It is not worth it any more. I would die to protect my family. Nothing more.
