TV will rot your brain and make you want to buy all kinds of things you don't need or really want. It takes up valuable time that could be spent on reading, doing art, visiting friends, bicycling, hiking, etc. TV also tends to make teenagers aggressive (on account of all the violence). TV presents news in a biased fashion that is not easy to see through.
I've stopped watching TV althogether.
As for the vision problem, it's unlikely that TV caused the vision problem, so it's unlikely to have an effect if you cut down on watching TV.
Some people claim that doing eye exercises can help improve vision. Eating carrots will help improve night vision, but not overall clarity.

Don't watch tv for long. Don't sit in front of the computer monitor screen for too long. Don't read while lying down in bed or putting the book too close to your face.
Relax your eyes by looking at far away objects. Look at the greenery for about 5-10 mins a day. Besides beta carotene, try foods with selenium like oysters, tuna or shrimps. Selenium helps ensure proper eyesight function.

YES !
I don't know the health effects but the social effects are absolutely staggering. Take TV with a pinch of salt, DO NOT believe everything you watch, most of it, including dramas and soap operas are commercialy and politically driven. As in, they want to sell you something or they want you nod your head when your government bombs another country.
Too much TV leads to cabbage for brains
I hope your eye's are ok by the way, take advice from doctors!

Well, yes, the light from a television- or a computer monitor- or a video game can be hard on your eyes. Not to mention what it does to your brain: I used to know these little girls who quite literally didn't have any imagination and didn't know how to do even the most basic of chores. Instead, they had to copy all their little games from things they saw on TV. That's pretty bad, for kids ranging from 5 to 10 years old.

tv has both good and bad effects. if you watch unnecessary programs, which are only for the sake of watching, it is bad. but in limits, if you watch knowledgable programs, like history or geographical documentaries, you are using the tv for a worthy cause .

Everything ... in moderation.
