The fetus would be injected with anesthesia.

you're not very educated. when the majority of abortions occur the fetus can't feel pain. late term abortions are performed under anesthesia, OR the fetus is given a shot that stops the heart. pain to the fetus is a non-issue.

I'm sure there's a trap in this, but I'll bite. Unless something's changed in the last few years, terminations are carried out under general anaesthetic. That takes care of the "mother". I would have thought that even if the embryo or foetus had a functional nervous system then the anaesthetic would knock them out too, but I could be wrong, I ain't no doctor.

It would depend on how painful a regular abortion is to the foetus (I don't know of any reliable data on that) and the feasibility of such a procedure. If it could be done in a similar amount of time, for a similar cost, then sure. Ultimately I do consider causing pain to be a bad thing, but in many situations it's a necessary evil.

There's no evidence that a fetus feels pain in the first place.

Only at and after the point that the fetus is capable of experiencing pain. Why waste medical supplies on a thing that hasn't the capacity to feel?
