The worse advice that I ever got about my kids came from my in-laws. They say to let the kids do whatever they want to do as long as they don't get physically hurt b/c they are only young once. Right this from the same ones that raised my brother in-law that will not work, just lays out drinking and doping up while his wife makes all the money and takes care of their kids.

The worst advice was from my in-laws. They actually told me I should not hold my 1 month old very much or he'd be spoiled. They thought he should always be in a baby seat or in a crib or bouncy seat, so that he didn't think he "deserved" to be held all the time. Can you imagine!? Of course I told them that my baby was going to be held, and a lot. I wonder if that explains a lot about my poor husband.....

I've been told to give my child Karo syrup and water at night to make him sleep through the night! And she did it with her kid and her mom did it with her and they all turned out "fine". If fine means an anorexic who is self absorbed and too concerned with the appearance of perfection, then I must be abnormal! I never took that bit of advice.

The worse advice I've ever been given was to give a child everything he wants. It's great advice if you want to raise a selfish monster though.

when my son was one month old she insisted that babies needed to be kept warm and would freak out if I had him in anything less than long sleeves, a thick blanket, and a hat...mind you my baby was born in July and it was 100 degrees outside.
She also told me that breastfeeding should be considered child abuse because it is not sterilized like formula which is better than breastmilk anyway, you can't measure it so for all you know you could be starving your baby, and it's disgusting and improper for a woman to expose herself in public.
She ALSO told me to let him cry it out, even if it takes all night, because he has to learn his needs don't always come first (excuse me? yes they do!)
gramma's are sweet but sometimes I wonder how my parents ever survived to adulthood.

i was told not to take baby anywhere until he was 3 months. my sister who is a nurse told me this. i now look back and realize their was millions of germs in my house and people were coming in and out of the house anyway. there was millions of germs in the hospital as well. that rule of thumb just does not make any sense to me.

I was at my boyfriends grandmas house for a week and i obviously stopped whatever i was doing to feed her and hold her when she cried, just meeting her needs, she told to start propping her bottle! She said it was stupid that i always run to her every time she needed to be fed, otherwise I'll never get anything done! She also said to just let her cry, or I'll spoil her

Let the child do whatever they want - "leave him alone, he's OK." were the words when I tried to stop my son from doing something. I didn't listen to Grandma.
