Scientific research has uncovered two different types of consciousness or "soul".
One is associated with a more materialistic or atheistic mentality, termed the "A soul " and the other is associated with a more spiritual, sensitive or religious mind, termed the "R soul ".

As a lifelong atheist I deeply resent the use of the term "soul" to describe my conscious awareness. "Soul" is an extremely loaded term which carries enormous religious implications. It is NOT synonymous with consciousness, as so many fundamentalist Christians have been quick to point out.
That said, my personal philosophy tends toward materialism and away from unsubstantiated idealism. I am certainly type-A. (After reading the above responses, it's obvious many people confuse materialism with materialistic -- a huge mistake.)

I have an "R" soul most of the time. But I am bi-polar at other times. --- The "A" soul does just fine, and would be an "R" soul if were not for Church Christians who seem to worship Paul, instead of quoting Jesus.

An R soul. I have always thought more about what I can do for others rather than what is to be gained by me. I have been ridiculed for not being more self-centered or selfish but I know no other way to be.

A-R Soul. I love the material world but as someone who has a Masters Level in Reiki, I'm clearly spiritual as well.
But, scientific research? Who are you trying to kid?
