Please address this issue. I am an A/C contractor in Georgia and we focus on indoor air quality. You really need to get your home dried out, either by free standing dehumidifiers or a whole house dehumudifier, then address the mold that is still existing. Humidity levels below 40% would be real good right now since mold can't grow in dry air. If you have a large amount of mold you may want to consider some remediation however I will warn you these companies will sock it to you and scare the daylights out of you! Address your indoor air quality first, change your air filter every 30 days or sooner. Buy a better quality filter they make a difference. If you decide to clean up the mold yourself please read the epa guidelines. Mold clean up is when you can get the sickest since you are breaking the spores open and allowing them to become airborne. The answer to your question is yes you can become very ill from mold.

I would have someone come in and check the house for any type of mold-especially black mold. It can cause serious respiratory problems. In the meantime, look around for yourself and try using a dehumidifier to take out some of the dampness. Hope this helps. Sheeba

If you are sure that the circumstances are what is effecting you i would stay with someone until it is figured out. Dont forget if it is damp then it is perfect for molds and mildews which are also harmful to the system if constantly breathed in. Dont chance it, you need to get better and if that means a faster recovery by moving out till this is solved then i would do it.

Many species of black mold and mildew (or the mycotoxins they produce) can cause or aggravate a number of ailments. Common effects from molds such as stachybotrys atra, penecillium, cladosporium and several strains of aspergillius, are asthma, pneumonitis, upper respiratory problems, sinusitis, dry cough, skin rashes, stomach upset, headaches,
disorientation and bloody noses. Numerous other species of mold and mildew are also toxic, and many mycotoxins are known carcinogens. Severe exposures can lead to internal bleeding, kidney and liver failure and pulmonary emphysema. Such health risks due to the presence of mold in a dwelling are a serious concern to occupants, and can pose potential liability for owners of rental properties.

Yuck! I'm betting it's the mold that's making you sick too!
Yes, find somewhere else to live until the dampness and mold problem is sorted out. Meanwhile, you may want to see a doctor for antibiotics- or at least treatment.
Good luck!

Its probably mold. Look in the phone book for a company who can come in and spray your house down. MOld caln make you extremely sick. Or, if that doesnt work, check inot your home's history. Sometimes if the previous owner used the home for a meth lab, the chemicals can seep into the pores of the house and make you and your family really ill..

I lived with mold and mildew in my apartment's carpet for months before realizing how sick it was making me. I would definitely leave before it gets worse. I got to the point where I woke up in the middle of the night coughing, grasping for my inhaler, and the same happened when I woke up in the morning. When they replaced the carpets, in a matter of days I was better. If this ever happens to me again, I'm definitely leaving until it is solved.
