Overcast are great days for fishing. I live in Northeast Texas. I suppose that your question is in regards to spring time as there is no date on what day you asked the question. The topwater bite has started and will usually last longer through the day when it is overcast. As one other user stated the cloud cover prevents the water from heating up as much so fish are more aggressive and actively feeding throught out a bigger part of the day. Depending on water clarity and the outside weather will determine color choices. Cloudy days in murky water call for darker colors. (its the exact opposite of what most people think) As the darker colors make a more visible shadow in the water. ie(easier to see a black car in the fog then a white or silver). I assume you are bank fishing as you are new to the sport. If you are using live bait I would use whatever is a natrual resource for the fish to feed on. Worms, Crickets, Grasshoppers, minnows, etc. A quick trip to your local bait store will answer that question for you. Also you want to pick a lure or bait that is a prey of the fish you are targetting. I hope this helps!

Overcast is definately good. The fish will not be buried in the cover. I would go to the LA DNR ( Department of Natural Resources) website to find a place to fish, they will have a lot of info on what type of species each lake has along with other amneties. Good Luck.

Generally it doesn't matter much if it's overcast. It may help, as your shadow won't be on the water which can spook the fish, and fish may come out from the shady places they like to hide. On the other hand, if there are shadows, you know where the fish might be, without shadows you'll have to cover more area.
The only weather I worry about when fishing is the wind -- wind makes waves, which muddy up the water, as well as making casting difficult. (Rain can make it uncomfortable, but if it's not windy, fish will generally bite just fine in the rain.)

Over cast can be good as it is not hot so the fish wont be seeking the cooler water at the bottom.
Not sure of the places. Go exploring, call you local fish and wildlife department and they should be able to tell where there are stock ponds etc.
Good luck to you!

go out there and find out.
even if you get skunked, you still got to go fishing.
a bad day fishing always beats a good day at work.
