If people go to heaven, then dogs certainly do too. My seventeen-year-old cat died yesterday, of heart failure we didn't even know she had until it was too late. Cats and their stubbornness to show any form of weakness, I guess... But I feel very certain that if there is an afterlife, my cat is safe and sound there already, having finally been reunited with her mother. And I'm not religious, so it's not a matter of just following some set belief. It is a feeling I have. It is one of those feelings that I actually trust.
Some people will say that any afterlife would be for humans only... It is a selfish way of thinking, but it is not the oldest way. The earth is the oldest. And the earth is very...very...very old. Many things have lived on this planet, way before humans ever did. Listen to your heart...if there is an afterlife (and I somehow think there is), it must at least be as old as the earth is. It did not suddenly blink into existence with the dawn of humankind. That just wouldn't feel right.
My mom, my grandmother, my great-grandmother, and my aunt -- all have passed, and if a heaven exists, they are all safe and sound there. But so too are my many fish from childhood, my dog Coco, my cat Samantha, and now my cat Alisha. If anything, the afterlife most certainly is not a lonely place. :) Your dog will have many others to help guide him or her into this new place. There will be much to see and experience. And someday, you will be with your friend once more.

Some people say that since animals do not have a soul like people do, then they do not go to heaven when they die. How could they if they do not have a soul, since its the soul that travels to heaven (or hell) when we die.
I, on the other hand, believe that animals do go to heaven when they die. God took all that time and imagination to create all of the animals that we see, and made all that effort to save them from the flood, so why would He not let them in heaven? Doesn't make any sense to me... Of course there will be animals (especially dogs) in heaven!!!!

Sorry to hear about your dog!!
I have had two of my dogs put to sleep within 8 months apart. It was so hard to take!!
Yes, I do believe dogs and cats go to the same heaven we do???
This is how I have my mind set. My dogs are not suffering or in pain anymore. My dogs are up in heaven playing , jumping around. God, decided the children that are in heaven need animals to play with too.
That is how I believe..

What are animals ,but living things that interact, love, play, have feelings, and think. Similar to people. Like all people they should go to a permanent resting area forever. Animals are no excuse. So definately! How could God leave out some creatures in the vast world he has created!
I am so sorry for your loss! There is really not muchj more i can say but that you can count on you r guardian angel to now have a friend with her/him.

Oh my, that is a silly question, not to be mean but they dont. You dont get to go to heaven just for believing in God either. Has anyone here read the new testament?
John 14:6
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

I refuse to believe that a loving God would turn a dog like mine away from heaven.

I believe that there is a dog heaven. God had Noah build the ark to save the animals. They must be important to him!

i sure hope there is read this poem....
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew, in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me
