Every one of fifty states have waiting lists of parents who want a BABY... sadly, after 18 months of age of the child, adoption rates plumment.

If some of those parents would stop being selfish in wanting a BABY and instead offer their love and home to an older child, who knows what would happen? We won't know unless it happens.

1. Time Frame. I have some friends trying to adopt a child right now. They told me that the process for them is going to take around two years. I realize that a the adoptive parents need to be interviewed and screened. But, two years.

2. Cost. Another thing hindering the adoption process is the cost associated with the adoption process. Who's paying for the orphanages and the foster care right now? The government. Who pays the taxes for the government to run? We do. So can't we eliminate or reduce the costs associated with adopting. Afterall, the adoptive parents are going to be supporting this child from now on. Thus, reducing the amount we have to pay for foster care and orphanages.

3. Age of children. I think that in general, most adoptive couples are looking for new born babies. My wife and I plan on adopting children after we are done having children of our own. Yet, my wife has mentioned that she would like to adopt a new born or infant. Is there anything wrong with this? That's for each person to decide. I just think its great that they are adopting a child.

Because they want babies, not older kids. No one wants to deal with the problems children who've been abandoned/neglected deal with. Everyone wants cute little, cudley babies, not 7 year old kids with emotional problems created by being born to the wrong person. When the court gets to the point of terminating parents parental rights in order for the child to be placed for adoption, the damage has already been done and no one wants to deal with those problems.

Personally, we were approved as foster parents, with the goal of eventually adopting one of the kids that was placed with us, but we're in a small area, and never got any kids at all. We checked into adopting an older kid, but really don't have the cash up front which is necessary just to get the state to check out the home. We were never interested in adopting a baby, we've already been down that road, don't feel the need to go thru the baby stuff again.

So yeah, there are some christians who would like to adopt, just don't have the finances.

I have known several people who want to adopt. The laws make it very difficult. It wasn't always so hard. I have an aunt and uncle who adopted five kids. People I have known in the last several years, have waited sometimes ten years. Some of them have adopted from other countries because it is easier. I don't know why the laws make it so hard to adopt. Children in foster care and orphanages are generally older. The kids in foster homes alot, the parents still have parental rights and won't allow their children to be adopted. I would love to adopt or be a foster parent, but because I did a couple stupid things when I was younger it isn't possible.

And if there is more than enough food in the world to go around, how come people starve?

The short answer is that people simply do not care enough.

In this particular case, orphanages have a lot of special needs children which are much harder to get adopted. Very few people are willing to put in the extra work these children involve, when they can choose a child without special needs.

There is a lot of red tape and a lot of standards one has to meet to be able to adopt, not to mention the cost. Just because someone is willing to adopt and has all the love in the world to give, does not mean that they will meet the qualifications. Many people do want babies, there is no dispute there, the sad fact is though, it goes much deeper than that.

The fees and waiting period for adoptions are exorbitant. Some people don't want the older children. To adopt from overseas it is a little speedier but very expensive. Adoption is a very important cause to me. I think if people are going to be pro-life they need to give these women options as in making adoption easy. I hope in later years to be able to open adoption agencies, even non profit. This is something way down the road for me but a goal in life...My husband and I are in the adoption process right now. There is A LOT of red tape...I am a Christian and certainly believe action should be taken. If your going to preach about it then give them options.
Thanks for the good q.

It is easy to say there are people who are willing to adopt babies. However not all people would want to adopt just any baby. Some are choosing the possibility that they will not be raising someone whose DNA or genes will give worries instead of joy. some would prefer to be of their own race and some would prefer healthy and strong babies. Most orphanages have children with something adoptors does not want to take responsibilitites beyond just the average duties.
Most often than not adopting babies require a lot of legal proccedings and conditions making it a nuisance or cumbersome to those who wnats to have someone to take care of. Have you not ever wonder why Brad Pitt and Angelina Jollie prefers to adopt from other countries than here in US?

Because most people want to adopt babies or toddlers. A lot of the children available for adoption are over 10, have a lot of behavioral problems, and have a mental health diagnosis. It takes a really special person to make a life-long commitment to a child like that.

I want to adopt a kid with down syndrome when I am old so I can help him grow up and have a decent life. If he never copes well, then he or she can stay at home and keep my husband and I company when we are old geezers.

I'm too young to adopt. Plus, my husband is active duty and I am in the guard. Let's not forget all the biases and red tape that even apply to those able.
