ONE REASON
Right to bear arms, its in the constitution which makes it a pretty difficult thing to overturn.
Did you know the shooting was done with a Glock 17 9mm handgun? Thats a weapon that is easily accessed and costs about 500 bucks.
a)There is an age limit to carrying a gun. There is also a no felony clause.
b)You can't "streamline" guns to only hunting weapons, besides, a Glock is a hunting weapon. Its called capitalisim, you cant cut off a market because the product was used in a crime. Then shouldnt household cleaners be cut off because they can be used to huff or make bombs? That wasnt their purpose but it is certainly a possibility.
c)I understand this freak was a legal alien but he has the same constitutional rights so long as he is here legally. I understand that you want a change, but again, the constitution is pretty solid policy.
d) All public places are manned by police, just not 24/7. Most communities, if not all, do not have the resources it would take to put cops at every street corner. It just isnt realistic.
Same goes with security officers.....they are expensive and college campuses are still, even after yesterday, a very safe place.
e)Same with d....they are for the most part, adequately patrolled, but they simply cant be there ALL the time.
I understand your logic for these reasons but the fact of the matter is that we live in a society where change is a slow, metamorphic process. Some rights we have as citizens will never change because of the constituion.
I wish there could be some of the things you have mentioned but the bottom line is that they are just not realistic.

a) There IS an age limit to carry a gun
b) There are numerous types of guns that have been illegal for years
c) You do have to be a U.S. Citizen
d) Guns are already banned on school campuses (which arguably is why so many people choose schools to go on their rampages, no resistance) and most have police officers posted on campus. Most colleges and universities have their own police force.
e) See d
Instead of passing more and more gun control measures that will only affect the lawful gun owners. Let's enforce those laws that are already in effect and will get the unlawful gun owner off the street.

Well, I agree that there needs to be some changes made with the gun control issue. However, guns are really not the problem. The people of our nation should have the common decency to have feelings for one another. Just because 1 kid with some very serious problems committed this massacre, and many more in the past, the gun is not to blame. Need to realize that this situation probably could have been prevented if,, the teacher who noticed in the past the kid was mentally unstable had reported it or the officers whom responded to the 1st shooting would have alerted the school officials of the incident alot of lives probably would have been saved!!

Let's see. There are age limits to buy guns. They have background checks. In fact, this idiot had to wait 30 days to buy the second gun because there was a law preventing him from buying two. It's against the law for a student to carry a hand gun at Va Tech. Va Tech has their own security police. One of the first major campus killings was done with a hunting rifle. And since we have so many enemies from within, your solution is to disarm the citizenry. Brilliant.

Just how many more laws do you suggest?
There are many, many laws now on the books, both federal and local alws and restrictions, yet these shootings still take place.
Fact: There are more people killed by automobiles every year in this country than by guns, outlaw them?
Fact, there are more people killed every year by medical mistakes than by guns, how do we eleiminate this danger?
Before the invention of guns, people still found ways to kill, and if guns were eliminated, they would no doubt revert back to some of the old ways.
How about these illegal and useless wars where thousands are killed? how are they to be eliminated?
If you really believe in more guns control, research what is already in place, then make suggestions.

If we outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. Some minorities have more reason to carry concealed to protect themselves because of the neighborhoods they live in (I daresay forced to live in), and I also heard Dylan Klebold and Erik Harris were US born citizens. Bad people will get guns no matter what.
Vtech could have been prevented/mitigated if they had notified the students earlier of the shooting, and if the police had gone into the building sooner instead of standing around.

Osama killed 3000 people with box cutters on 9/11/01. Should we outlaw box cutters?
From what I've read, this boy bought his guns legally 30 days before the rampage. This was no spontaneous act - he wanted to kill.
Do you honestly believe that he would not have found another way to kill if he had not been allowed to buy guns? He would have made pipe bombs with match heads, or poison gas with bleach and ammonia, or used "hunting guns", or flare guns, or a 2 x 4 with nails in it.
This boy was determined to kill, and no gun law in the world could have stopped him from doing it.
But less restrictive gun laws that allowed people to defend themselves could have prevented it.

Please read some of my other answers. Do you realize that you are stepping toward paranoia. Why aren't you attempting to ban cars?. Don't foreigners drive cars?. By your way of thinking, we should put up gun towers at malls, and schools. Maybe barbed wire at day care. I know, let's start a rumor, that all Police, and Fireman are sleeper cells. Streamilized, what the hell does that mean?. Sleep Well!.

To quote Ben Franklin "those who give up freedom for security, deserve neither" . Luckily, "sensible people" fight 24/7 to protect every american's constitutional rights...all of them . Thankfully guns are available in the US for the over 2 million americans who legally defend themselves with them every year. BTW-there are over 30000 laws in the US pertaining to firearms already.
