there is a timing connector in the ignition module harness near the distributor, gray square plug in a two wire connector, warm the engine to operating temp, unplug the connector and set the timing to 10 degrees, 12 if you want a little more power. I'm assumeing you know how to use a timing light and to turn the distributor to change the timing.

What size engine do you have in your ride??? and if you have to ask you probably don't have a timing light or understand where the harmonic balancer is located.... get a mechanic to help you and it is probably something else that's wrong and not the timing.... IF you think it's an electrical problem it will often turn out to be fuel related ----------- best you go to a mechanic for help >>>> he's got all the tools and gadgets to fix it correctly....

But remember that every time that you increase the timing on the newer vehicles from 1981 to present date, you will also increase the temperature in the cylinders.
Check and set the timing only or you will be buying a new engine.
