Some Catholics are Christians, just like others may be from other "Christian" denominations. Biblically, a Christian is one who has received Christ (John 1:11-12) and been born again (John 3:1-6), and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ and His chosen Apostles as taught in the New Testament.

Several Roman Catholic teachings are unscriptural and cause other Christians to doubt their Christianity, like:

1) They claim to be the one true church . . .
2) Papal infallibility . . .
3) Baptizing the non-consenting (babies) . . .
4) The Immaculent Conception of Mary . . .
5) Praying to saints! Yikes!!! . . .
6) The Assumption of the body of Mary . . .
7) Transubstantiation . . .

Well I think you know I think it's dumb, and I'd never heard it until the wonderful awakening that is R&S. But I'd never really come across fundies until then either, so I guess that explains why...

Maybe the violation was for a similar reason to why I couldn't post "Is Satan a Communist?" the other day. I know it wasn't blocked for the word Satan...it's a sick, sad world. I just got "t*ts" starred out too - what if I was talking about birds?

I wouldn't call it stupid but I have seen it quite often. I've also heard people say Protestants are not Christians. What exactly is a Christian then? As for the violation notice, you can't post the same question more than once. It violates Yahoo's terms and conditions.

Intentionally or not, these people are saying: 1) I am a Christian; 2) You do or think some different things than I do; therefore 3) you are not a Christian.

I agree it is silly and misinformed reasoning.

Do Catholics say they are Christian or Catholic when someone ask what religion they are. I don't know myself if they do or not. But I do know there are many denominations within the Christian Faith and if someone has accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, then they are Christians. It's like the whole Jew or Gentile separation that Paul had to deal with in his ministry 2000 yrs ago. Who am I to judge who is a Christian or not. To be Christian means to be Christ Like. As A Born Again Christian we are to be "imitators of Christ" in other words live our lives by the example He set when He walked the Earth and died on the cross for our sins. Jesus taught us to pray in His name and to ask for forgiveness of sins not from a confessional but that we have direct access to the Father through Jesus. Therefore Christian should not have to go to a booth and go through rituals to ask for forgiveness of their sins. They have direct access to God, through Jesus and need to pray in Jesus name when asking for forgiveness or when praying period. I am not criticizing anyones method of asking for forgiveness and not saying Catholics are not Christians, I'm pointing out however that these "stupid" people you are asking about may believe that being Christ like "a Christian" doesn't jive with them when they see that Catholics go to confessionals to ask for forgiveness of their sins. We have to be careful not to be critical of ones faith and we have no right to say someone is not a Christian. That would be judging others, which the Bible is clear on as well. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I think the question maybe would be better asked like this:

Is it right for someone to claim Catholics are not Christians?

Maybe leave the stupid part out. Anyone can call him or herself a Christian, but the only thing that matters is: Have they accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Also they know that Jesus is the only way and works and rituals of religion will not save them, only faith in Jesus.

Point taken, if you think it's stupid you not actually calling someone stupid, your are saying what they are claiming is stupid. On that point I would say it is stupid for anyone to say any person, regardless of whether they have even been to a church or claim to be Catholic, Church of God, Presbo, Baptist or Church Located in My House etc. not Christian. The term Christian is not exclusive to the Baptist etc., in fact they shouldn't even have to claim or tell anyone they are Christian, it should be evident by the life they live. Thank you for correcting me and I hope they don't pull the question again, it's getting ridiculous.

The etymology of "Christian" is Christ man, or follower of Christ.

So you have to ask yourself, would a so-called Christian have idols or deify someone. Of coarse we all fall short, but some miss by a mile.

A Christian is someone who believes in Christ.

ANYbody can be a Christian.
It is--I think---using what you know about Christ's life--that actually MAKES you able to be called a Chriatian.

Maybe if you used the word "silly" or something instead of stupid you wouldn't get a notice like that...but yeah, I'd say it's "silly" to say that - it would make more sense simply to say "they're not protestant."
