Cruise lines don't generally do "summer jobs". They usually require you to sign a commitment for six to nine months at a time with no days off in that time period. But you can check the web sites to get more specific information. Also check out the cruise jobs web site:

Easier place to get jobs onboard are the shops.
There are 2 major companies that handle 90% of the shops on ships:
www.hardingbros.co.uk
or
http://www.starboardcruise.com/
Hardings does phone interviews and pays a little better,
Starboard has more ships (80 as opposed to 45 or so)
That way you are not CREW, but Staff (better cabins, ship status etc...)
You dont work much (only on sea days, the work load is 12 hours or so) and the contracts are 6 months, but there are lots of ways to get out of one.
Also, if your idea is travelling, working on the shops gives the advantage that usualy they are DUTY FREE, meaning they cannot open while on port, so you dont work, so you can go out of the ship and see the places you are visiting.
Trust me, I did ships 10 years, 5 as reception, 5 on the shops.
Its such an easy job, the shops that is.

if you are just looking for 2 to 3 months of work you may have a problem since most ships make you sign a 6 month or 1 year contact with no vacation time and practically no days off.
