Don't you go pulling a Nietzsche...
See.... if you'd ever played Black & White... you'd understand.
I mean... if there were a god, surely he could spend his whole time keeping everything alright and personally fixing every problem that arises.... But then again he wouldn't have to.
I mean... granted... you can't convince THOSE people to just look after themselves.... BUT ... you can teach the big creature to do ALL the micromanagement for you... so all you need do is watch and prat around on the sidelines....
I can only assume the christians believe that their god has set it all up so humans take care of their own micro-management... while he just prats about on the sidelines and fixes any mess-ups that might arise for whatever silly reason.
O'course the whole thing is full of inconsistancies.... but y'know.... suspension of disbelief and all that.

No.
OUR role is to worship Him.
That is why we were put on the Earth--to worship God through helping others, tithing, going to church and singing about Him, and so on.
It is the ONLY life to have---peaceful, joyfulness, pure happiness, and contentment, with EVERYthing--no matter what storms may come your way.
All that is from just KNOWING that God IS in control of our lives--IF we let Him.

You are right, what do you need god for, UNLESS you are tired of living in this hellhole and don't want to spend eternity in it. THAT is what God's purpose "is." Contrary to popular belief, this FLAWED species is not HIS creation, but the creation of the devil to be it's HOSTS. Like a parasite. God in heaven came here only to offer these "creations" his GRACE and a way OUT. As long as people remain DECEIVED by this God of Wrath, they will never see the truth and persons like you will see no need for him. It's your life and your eternity......the choice is yours, no push here.

His role in fiction is to be the loving protector of mankind. As he is all wise, our suffering is seen to be a product of his wisdom. It never occured to the ancients that it is possible that the Universe doesn't care about us.
