Mine was born in 1883 and he was 14 when the composer Brahms died. My mother remembers him telling her about it. BTW I'm only 25. Who else has a simular geneology?

Do I get a brass ring?
My grandfather from Poland was born in the 1840's, immigrated to Chicago before 1900. His first wife died in the 1890's, and my grandmother (wife 2) was much younger. My mom was born in 1909.. her dad died the following year, after an accident. My mother married very late, and I was born in 1949.
Many times in research, you can estimate ages based on children's births. Mine is the exception to all the "rules".

One of my grandfathers was born in 1881 but he was in a bad oil refinery explosion in 1920 and died the next day. My father was only 13.
My other grandfather was born in 1877 and died when I was less than a year old. My grandmother, his wife, died a few months before that.
I grew up with only one grandparent, my Daddy's mother.

My father was born in 1904 and he tells of the San Francisco earthquake and the beginning of flight. He was 29 when the last member of the Donner Party died! My grandfather was born in 1874 but not in this country. Ah, we are a nation of immigrants.

My grandfather was born in 1897 (in UK) and died in 1975. He fought in France in World War 1 and survived, despite being badly wounded on The Somme in 1916. One of his brothers was killed, though, in 1917.
Since my mum wasn't born until 1927, had my grandfather died in France, I wouldn't be here now, typing this!

Close. I have (now deceased, of course) a Grandmother who was born in 1894. She was one of about 16 children. Those were the days when women "put up" with their husbands' desires. How things have changed!

I had two. Both are long dead and I never knew either. One born 1892; the other 1864, ours was the 3rd family and that one died before I was born.
