Last month she lost £30,000. She is claiming that whilst she has lost a lot, her luck will change in the future. It is her own money though, so I feel like I can't tell her what to do with it.

She sounds like the kind of person who owns dollar denominated shares/options but doesn't believe she is losing money while the dollar weakens against the pound. Perhaps she needs to go on a corporate finance course, rather than a gambling addiction course.

I hate to say it but if she dosn't get help for the gambling problem get rid of her. As soon as your married you'll be broke she will be spending all of your hard earned money in that casino. Pawning things off for money. Trust me my ex was a gambler and once he gambled the babysitting money in the casino away i had to have my father wire me money to i could pick up my kid. Its a serious attition. Maybe she needs to hit rock bottom first before she realizes she has a problem.

You should sit her down and have a talk about her problem or take her to counseling. Gamblers Anonyomous would probably be best and I think the both of you should go so you can help her. If she is not willing to go or at least try to get help than don't marry her. It will just get worse because once you are married than you are liable for any monies that she might owe.

tell her there's no such thing as luch. if she looses on poker, then shes a bad player, if random games, then its fixed.
try to make her see the sense of stopping. after all, if she looses 30,000 then its a drain on her purse

holy crap! you'd better do something about it now, before she racks up such a huge debt that she cannot repay. then guess who she'll ask for help/money? and if you get married, all your assets will be shared!!! yikes, man. yikes indeed.

well, i wouldn't marry her yet. when you do, it'll be your money she's losing as well. you could try an ultimatum. she quits gambling or the relationship is over.
