I am in my late 20's now. If I am now expected to claim the interest. I feel like I should just be given the money. She's offered it in a reluctant way. The money is not that much and came from parties and things when I was kid. I am already married so I don't know when it would normally be given to me. Actually it would of helped when planning the wedding.

If you have to claim the interest on the account the account must be in your name so you should be able to with drawl it any time you want. If her name is also on the account and she doesn't want to take her name off explain to her about the tax situation and that it would be nice of her to compensate you for the fact that you had to claim interest on money that is in your name but do not have access to. I am she she would understand.

if this is money that was given to you as gifts then yes, it should be given to you. i'm surprised your name isn't on the account anyway. i would just tell her that you could really use it right now and tecnically it's your's. my father has set up numerous accounts with our names on them along with his. while the money will be ours when he passes, he put it there and as long as he lives, it's his. your account however, is different. ask her for it.
EDIT-the answer above me is right. i hadn't thought about it. if you're having to claim intrest, your name must be on the account. if it doesn't need 2 signatures to draw it out you can get it anytime.

Weird, you would think it would of already been given to you. I agree with you if you have to claim it, then you should have it.
