Minny there is a moron.
anyway.... federal law: You must be 18 to purchase a rifle or shotgun. 21 to purchase a handgun.
For blackpowder, you must be 18 to purchase a black powder rifle or handgun AND... there isn't even any background check.
THAT is the law.
The only "process" you go through is you get there, you pick out a gun, you fill out a paper and sit there while they check to see if you have any prior felonies or mentail issues and as long as you're perfectly normal, you pay for your firearm, and you walk out and enjoy the responsibility and fun of being a gun owner.

yes you can purchase from a private seller. some of these arm chair commandos want to say you can't, but I will assure you that you can. I am 19 myself (live in Indiana and some people I am sure still want to deny that I have a handgun permit to carry open/or concealed here in IN) and I am sure you could get a gun permit in Florida to. See the easiest thing you could do is have your parents get one for you (that is what I did, and it's legal to. and than no worries about getting ripped or the gun being stolen or nothing like that. so this is the easiest way to do it, but you could purchase from a private seller.) I am not gonna say I know your state laws so double check, but I am more than sure you can, cuz it is like this almost anywhere I know of. good luck

Once you are 18 you can purchase a rifle of your choice. Go to the store, pick one out and fill out a form that says you are a resident and not a drug user. They will call the local police station and make sure you are not a felon and then you walk out with your new gun. It takes about 20 minutes total.

Must be 18. The last time a bought one I had to fill out the forms, they did an instant background check, which by the way added an additional $11.00 to the price, everything was okay, paid my money and that was that, just about 20 minutes time.

18. Go to your local gun shop, pick out your rifle & buy it. Only paperwork should be the Form 4473.
