My daughter is 9 1/2 months old and refuses to go to bed by herself. anytime i lay her down she forces herself to have a bowel movement so we have to get her up and change her. Is there anything my husband and I can do?

I don't think she is doing this on purpose! She's only 9 mos old.....she's not old enough to be manipulative!

I used to work at a daycare, but I don't know if this will be any help to you. First of all, that is one smart girl! Does she have another bowel movement right after you change her? What always worked for me when a child didn't want to go to sleep: when she has a bowel movement, changer her diaper, put her in her bed, turn off the lights, close the door; and leave it at that. She knows that you'll keep going in there and changing her. If you leave that door closed and don't go back until you're pretty positive she's sleeping, she won't think it's a game. Hope it helps....good luck!

Sweetie, you obviously need some parenting help. At 9.5 months old your child is not capable of forcing a bowel movement to manipulate her bedtime. At 30 years old, i cannot force a bowel movement. Accept that this is your daughter's routine. Put your baby to sleep then place her in the bed. If she wakes up to a bowel movement, change her and repeat the process. My friends baby is 6 months old and still hates the crib, you need to learn what works for your baby.

A 9 1/2 month old baby can't force herself to have a BM. Just change her before you put her down and if she wakes up in the night with a soiled diaper just change her again (don't feed and don't get her up just change her) and put her straight back to bed. It is not unusual for a child this age to wake up during the night. Just be patient and let her grow up. Don't expect her to do things that she isn't developmentally ready to do yet.

sounds like a very clever little girl.

you need to prepare yourself for it, and change her in her bed / by her bed - then put her straight back - so dont take her out of the room, dont talk to her / complain etc..

this may take a while to crack!!!

she is to young to be potty trained my dear, they start around 2 or 3 they do not have the ability to know the sensation of the feeling of for say going to the bathroom, I think you are expecting a miracle, please don't take that the wrong way but, they are just to young at that age to know the feeling of emptying their bowls or urine.
