OK, before you make any decision on buying a neon, GO TO dodgeforum.com and then GO TO THE NEON SECTION!! We actually own neons, fix neons, buy neons, drive neons, and know neons! I will bet you that 95% of the people who just answered this thread have never even driven one. I know some that have made it to almost 300000 on its first engine and tranny, currently I have one with 90000 on it with only a head gasket I just replaced. Like I said, head over there, we will give you some good advise. My screen name on there is Jr. Mechanic

I have a 1996 Neon, it is on its second engine (we bought it when someone started to replace the engine at 100k, but couldn't finish the job), it was a fleet car in its previous life, so it probably didn't get much maintenance. We have had it seven plus years, and we have put a ton of miles on it. It hasn't given us a reason to get rid of it, so it is a daily driver.

I see all the Neon bashing posts here, but this is my 2 cents. The Neon has been on the car market basically unchanged for YEARS. If the car didn't have a following in this very fickle market, the Neon wouldn't exist now. So if was such a POS, it would have been eliminated a long time ago.

End of my rant for the Neon.

Yes i have seen a some neon's with that much mil age on them. The engines are very good if taken care of and if the head gasket has already been replaced with the metal type.

I agree whole heartedly with the majority of the people here, unless the car is being given to you for free, I would look for something a bit more reliable, you are gonna be putting money into that car all the time, just to keep it running.. 250,000 would be nice but a very small percentage of cars ever get to that point, i never have, i had a 91 civic hatchback (LOVED IT) and got to 170,000. and that thing was a money pit at that point

I think that this Neon is already past it's expected lifetime. I would invest my money in something else. I know several people who have Neon's, none with this high of mileage. They have multiple problems around 90,000 miles.

I haven't seen any neon's make it that far. The trasmissions and cylinder heads have alot of problems. Not to metion there is always rust damage.

nope, sorry. I'd be cautious about buying that car w/ that many miles. They're not known for their longevity.

I hope it's on it's second (or third) engine. The body might make it to 250,000 depending on where you live.
