The L96 British Army Sniper Rifle Is the best. none of this draganov stuff that only has an accurate range of about 300 metres. L96 can fire accurately at about 2 Miles.

Goto a custom gun builder and have one made. These are commonly refered to as "bean rifles" because they use them to hunt in areas that require a far shot like a bean field. Then reload with matched shells. by hand reloading you can buy the important parts in bulk so you know the consistancy is the same in all your ammo. However the weapon nor the ammo will make anyone a sniper. If you are looking more for a good distance affordable hunting rifle I would stick more to a standard caliber. .308 or 30-06 most high performance ammo is now made to very tight standards and will perform very well. plus you have a big advantage in the fact that if you go out on a hunting trip and some how lose your ammo you can go anywhere and find 30-06 ammo on the shelf which isn't the case with a non standard caliber.

Bullets don't travel in a straight line and even a slight breeze can alter the flight. I've shot targets with the .223 (the M-16 round) and had to hold like 6" high and two feet left to hit the 4" long target at 300 yards. Then the wind could suddenly blow in the opposite direction, requiring the reverse set up. I've heard of snipers holding like 43 feet left or right, because of the wind, at targets at 800 yards.

Most snipers around the world are using hunting rifles in the .2XX cal.-.3XX range.

I feel that the scope plays more of a factor at long range than the rifle at long range.

A tossup between 2 rifles;
The first the British Sniper Rifle L96 accurate to 900m (not 2 miles as quoted by someone else here) and harassing fire at 1100 meters.
The second the American Barrett M82A1M “Light Fifty” (designated L82A1 in the UK) is accurate to 2100 meters on equipment sized targets.
The British rifle is the weapon of choice for “close in targets” from 300 meters to 900 meters and is used by both British and US forces.
The Barrett is again used by both countries and presently holds the record for the longest confirmed kill by a rifle. The record was broken by a Royal Marine in Afghanistan in 2005 with a confirmed kill at 2050 meters, and a few months later a Canadian soldier got a confirmed kill to 2121 meters, a shot that had him having to compensate for the bullet dropping some 40 feet!

Depends, For really long range the Barrett .50 caliber. But for just 300 or 400 yards try the old and trusty Springfield 1903 .30-.30 with the Star barrel. Plus the Springfield is a LOT easier to get .

Barrett has produced a higher velocity version of their 50 cal...it is called the 416 barrett and is currently being field tested. For the patriot the top choice would be any controlled mauser bolt action in .300 win mag or .338 Lapua.

dragunov SVD is really sturdy, and it is semiautomatic. it has some sort of night picture enhancing.
shooting at important targets such as persons with flakvests or light armoured vehicles, you would appreciate 0.5 weapons, their rounds are heavier, do more damage fly further and do not deviate like small hunting .243Win or .308win bullets do.
one of those 0.5 weapons is Czech Falcon, but there is one in almost every country manufacturing its own weapons

to the max range of aimed fire.. to obtain aim at a 2000meters means to see a target for 2000 meters,

Barrett 50 caliber. In the hands of an expert, they can take out a target up to two miles away and can also fire armor piercing ammo.
