My family is traveling to Italy in early October for a week. We're gonna start in Rome for a few nights and then head to a Tuscany town. I'd like to put us in the most beautiful, practical place.

I was thinking Siena.

Any ideas?

I would also recommend both Siena and Lucca.
I was SUPPOSED to stay in Siena but ended up in Montepulciano a little hillside village in the Siena region. There are lots of little villages if you want a bit more quiet. Also has great views to the surrounding areas and often make wine!!
siena (and Florence ) are expensive comparatively to other places and I also have heard Pisa is not a place to stay (except for visiting the Tower), but Siena is lovely.

I was going to recommend Siena as well, or Lucca. I wouldn't recommend Pisa (maybe go to see the Leaning Tower, which is pretty neat, but other than that, Pisa is a tourist trap and extremely overrated).
