sweetie here are some tips for you. Drink a lot fo water or juice before a blood test and your veins are more plump that will help ease you if it is easier for the lab tech, Also most say don't watch them i watch them just so i know when it is over and that everything is ok you can prepare for the needle which really shouldn't hurt! and then breath as it she/he does it.
Now if you move or jump during the blood test possible issues will be the vein can move requiring the tech to stick you again, you will bruise a lot more and it will hurt! I dont know if you mom will hold you or not but you can start making steps to make it easier on yourself! Good Luck

Sophie,
I was 32 the first time the Dr gave me a blood test. I was so scared. The nurse told me to look away while she poked the needle in and I honestly can tell you, I didn't feel it. Then she walked around and told me she was done. I was amazed. Try it first on your own and don't look at the needle or the nurse. Look at the floor or concentrate on the side. You'll be ok, Sweetie, otherwise have your mom hold your other hand.

I get a little squeemish around needles, too. I usually try to keep taking deep breaths and "pretending" to be ready for the needle. Sometimes when I invision myself as being the coolest person in the world, everything turns out to be okay. I often will allow myself to watch the needle out of the corner of my eye. Somehow that helps me be aware and ready for the pinch!
Good luck, how this helps!

Remember that it is only one stick, and it will be quick. In just a minute it will be over. Yes, it will hurt a little, but it will be over quickly.
The person who said to drink water to get plumped up was right. Also the people who said breathe deeply. If you take a few deep breaths and let your body sag you'll be easier to stick.
Pretend that each deep breath is melting you a little bit into the chair. Your hands will unclench which is better, too.
Some kids feel like they need to be held, but others feel like they're being tied up and resist. Better to breathe deep, keep talking either to the tech or your mom, or play a word game that keeps you thinking.
(Like: how many kinds of candy can you name? How many kids in your class can you name?) Busy minds can't worry about a teeny stick.

If you won't sit still then your mom or a nurse will have to hold you. Just relax. It only stings for a second. Fighting it will only make it worse. Just take deep breaths and look the other way and try to think about something pleasant.

your mother can come with you. The doctor has ways to make things less scary. it doesnt hurt as much as you think it will. I am always watching as the needle goes in so i know what to expect and when to expect it. It helps me to be less afraid. Some people are just the opposite and dont prefer to watch it, but it will all be over before you know it.

Hey Kid I'm terrified of Needles too. But to tell you the truth, it's not that bad. I just turned my head so that I wouldn't have to see it. Honestly, i thought I was going to pass out. NOT the case. It's not so bad as long as you DONT LOOK AT THE NEEDLE!
