Because we can get away from turtle-necked geeks like old Beauferd that don't have a clue on which shoe goes on the right and which one goes on the left! You need to go to the Richard Petty Driving experience and take a few laps to rewire your poor little unformatted brain. Then you might get a taste of what it is like to go 180 miles per hour and barely miss hitting the wall with the g-forces trying to suck the blood out of your body. People that think these guys are out for a Sunday drive are sadly mistaken. A 500 mile race is really a challenge just to survive it with your car still in 1 piece.

this is a dupe question.

because it's great entertainment for race fans. It is even a team sport, which a watcher of a race could not help but notice. Even drag racing, which shoots its whole wad in 11 seconds and has to fix the engine, is a team sport and offers a lot of excitement to car lovers.

This same question is repeated to all forms of motorsport.WHY?Motorsport to us is like football to you guys.
So please stop asking these questions.

But...since this is Yahoo!answers,so i'll answer your question anyway.

NASCAR is NOT all about driving around and around in a circle.Cars at 200mph racing around, getting into big wrecks or dodging some spectacular crashes is what NASCAR is all about. So it's not your normal everyday Sunday drive. This is one of the best forms of motorsport.

it's all the fun and excitement. there's so much drama, and action from turns 1, to turns 4. it's loud there, you see any and all your favorite drivers duking it out for the thrill of a life time.

maybe they are easily captivated by taxicab like cars that are moving billboards going 180 mph arpun a 1.5mile oval. And perhaps maybe they are rednecks/hillbillys/rubes/yokels that can't seem to locate real racing.
