Parents do have a role, and in terms of extreme obesity, yes then I think they need to take the blame, regardless of what the child is tucking into when he is out of their care, after a point, enough becomes enough. Though there are a lot of overweight children who lack the self esteem of confidence to ‘exercise’ increasing to the state of size, you see from time to time on Yahoo a lot of people happy to slam ‘fat people’ how do they expect that same person to go out and do something positive with their life when they feel the eyes of other people staring at them if they run/swim/cycle in public? Alright, the same people who post on an Internet site aren’t likely to have the guts to shout out in public “Oi’ who ate all the pies!” though I’m damn sure someone else will.

I started running at 18 stone (I know what a sight) I had shouts, call them chavs if you like, regardless it can all be ‘hurtful’ to someone who is trying to change their life around, more so to a child, and wonder why they even bother. I run past the very same people now and I’m 11 stone, and it is like, what? So where are the taunts?

i beleave that child hood obesity is caused by multiple factors, one could be that the family has a history of obesity and that is is in the childs bloodstream, (like they have a bad thyroid.) or a low matabalism, it also could be caused by lack of attention or even depression, alot of people although they excercise constantly still struggle. if eating rite and exercising isnt working for you maybe you should try seeing a doctor for some help.
p.s coping with obesity can be tuff or even coping with the posibility the best way to not influence it would to have regular family exercise activity together at least one a week or so. Hope things get better!

the lack of physical energy kids have. They sit in front of a tv and play games for hours, while eating unhealthy and sugary snacks. And the fact that parents aren't inforcing rules on such behavior. When I was a child I was not allowed to play my video games or watch tv, until 1) i was done with my homework; and 2) it was after dinner. So from after school until 730/8, I was outside running around, being active, not sitting at home doing nothing.

As a parent with kids who are in no way fat i have to say its the parents who put the food in the cupboards. You hear them all the time "he comes in from school and he's straight in the cupboard for a bag of crisps and a can of coke, he wont touch fruit " DONT BUY THE CRISPS AND COKE THEN HE WILL HAVE TO EAT THE APPLE.

many factors. Schools stopping competitive sports. lazy parents feeding their kids ready meals packed with sugar and salt. Watching too much television and playing computer games rather playing outside.

The way the body uses what food it gets is genetic.
What parents let their kids do after eating. It's not as important WHAT you eat as what you DO after you eat.
You can eat healthy but if you sit on your butt all day, you won't burn what you took in.
Hey, here's another angle...Let's blame video games. Pac-Man is all about eating...Maybe that's where it all started.

Mainly its kids who stay at home and see food as their comfort. My niece was subject to a lot of bullying and she ended up staying at home a lot as she was scared of going out. She ended up putting a lot of weight on. I guess her parents were to blame, but as soon as their back was turned, she was off raiding the cupboards. Its really sad to see.

Parents who're afraid that their child will hate them if they don't give them everything they want, parents who want to be their kids friend rather than a parent, lack of discipline, parents who substitute 'stuff' for time and love...in other words, parents.

It's 100% down to what the parents feed the child.
