There really is no way to "isolate" a particular section of your abs. They are one big muscle. You can do exercises that work certain areas a little harder. Try these:
1. Butterfly crunch. Lie on your back with your hands behind your head. Draw your legs up towards your body so that the soles of your feet meet. Your legs are resting on the floor almost Indian-style. Do crunches as you normally would.
2. Leg lifts. Lie on your back with your legs outstretched and your arms above your head. Your hands and feet point to opposite ends of the room. Inhale while you are on the floor...slowly exhale and bring your legs straight up in the air so they stack directly over your hips. Keep your feet together. Breathe in once. Slowly exhale and bring your legs back to the floor w/ control. For more of a challenge, do a modified crunch. As you bring your feet up, raise your shoulders up off the floor at the same time, bringing your arms down by your side.
3. Raise and lower. This is harder than it sounds. Lie on your back with your hands behind your head. Bring both legs into the air, so they stack directly above your hips. Gently lower the left leg, taking two counts to do so. Do not touch the floor. Exhale and bring your leg back up for two counts (down, down, up up). Do the same on the right leg. After doing 8 on each leg, release each leg in single counts (down, up). After the third set, you will feel the burn.
Good luck!
