I wouldn't 'ask his permission', but I would defintly have a talk with him about it before hand and let him know your intentions and see if he has any problems.
Asking his permission puts him into the difficult situation of having to make a decision which he may not want to make. But if you say, "I'm planning on asking your sister out and want to be sure you don't have any issues with that" is a much more positive approach.

Well, you don't really HAVE to, but your friend would probably appreciate it. He might be surprised to find out you feel this way, and feel a little weird about it, maybe even betrayed if you don't say something first.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to tell him of your intentions in a friendly way, get his feedback and adress any issues he has. Asking leaves the door open for him to say no, then you have to choose whether or not you're going to go against his wishes.

Well I don't think you need to ask him for permission..he's not the parent....you just need to let him know that you like his sister and that you are going to ask her out. I think telling him is the best thing to do out of respect for your friendship with him. If he doesn't approve then who cares.....follow your heart. I would talk to her parents to earn some brownie points too lol...it worked for my parents. Good Luck in your new, upcoming relationship!

Not really, But it would be a sign of respect towards your friend if you ask them if they would be ok if you asked there Sister out. If would keep possible future conflicts at bay, Because he has said ok, it doesn't bother him. I dated my best friend's older brother once, and I actually confessed to her and their Mother that I like them, and they were the ones to tell him I liked him in turn he asked me out.

Maybe you don't need to ask him but give him a heads up, say - hey, I have been thinking about asking your sister out, just thought I should give you a heads up.

No - you have to ask HER permission to take her out.
But - you are very wise - just run it by your friend and assure him that you will take good care of her and RESPECT her.
And remember - if you want to keep your friend - you had better be VERY NICE to his sister!
Good luck!

i would ask your friend simply because it might be weird or awkward for him. you don't want to get your friend mad at you just because you wanted to go on a date with his sister. some people don't like their friends doing that. what if something goes wrong between you and her or you do something wrong and then your friend will hate you. i would be careful about that.

Well that depends, If he would think that you're only out to bop his sister, you might want to ask first to avoid a beating. But if he really thinks that you like her, then I wouldn't worry about it.
