You are not allowed to walk in and purchase firearms with no questions asked... Try it for yourself... For instance in Illinois we have what is called a FOID card. A Firearm Owners ID card. One can not look at a firearm in an Illinois gun store without first showing this card. To purchase the firearm paperwork must be completed. This paperwork includes questions such as criminal history, immigration, and mental stability. This paperwork is sent to law enforcement for review. Many times however the paperwork is not reviewed before the waiting period is over. After you agree to purchase a weapon there is a designated waiting period. The waiting period is 72 hours for handguns and 24 for long guns. now to my question... Why are there laws that will not allow prospective gun buyers from not going in and buying a weapon? Does the second amendment not state, "the right to keep and bear arms". It does not say "if you have a certain ID card", "after a waiting period", "etc".

Well, your question is not totally correct. There are some questions asked. Of course the questions differ from State to State. States like Virginia and Florida are blind to the cause and effect of their very easy gun control laws. In many states all you have to do is show residency in that state and act sane when you are in the gun store and you can walk out with one. Those guns wind up in States that have stricter gun laws. I am not in favor of taking guns away from people who are law abiding citizens. I have many hand guns and long guns. All are legal in NYS because I went through a background check and have a permit. I do believe that a 50 state standard should be imposed and gun dealers who sell guns illegally should be put in jail for a long time. Cars kill people, malpracticing Doctors kill people, steak knives kill people, baseball bats kill people. The point is that if someone is determined to kill people they will find ways to complete the crime. What or who would we have blamed if that VaTech student had made a bomb and killed 32 people and wounded others. Sorry to rant and rave but I don't think guns are the issued. I think people who kill people are the issue.

Evidently you do not live in NJ. Just to get a firearms ID it takes almost 6 months, which includes a background check. After that if you want to get a handgun you have to find the gun you want then go back to the police department to get a permit to purchase, where they verify your background checks. And to get a concealed carry permits are almost impossible to get. You have to need it for employment, such as a security guard, armored car driver, or be authorized by your organization to carry large amounts of money for payroll.
So I'm not sure why you are making a blanket statement like that.

mutually as a lot of your arguments make some experience, i've got self assurance i might desire to grant a touch preparation, of which you will no longer be conscious. shifting faraway from the semi and automatics for a 2nd, As an old defense force guy and a pupil of history, i understand many weapons have been invented to be utilized in warfare or against guy. the biggest distinction interior using a weapon is interior the around getting used. while a lot of human beings bypass attempting to discover deer, they convey a 30/30 lever action, made via any of various manufacturers. the 1st lever strikes have been created for the defense force via Henry hands. Winchester observed of challenge to get into the hands race via making it in a lighter version and his gun grew to develop into the rifle that gained the west. The Colt handgun replaced into initially equipped to grant the defense force a greater firepower than the civilian. in actuality especially much all weapons have been equipped for warfare and have been purely borrowed for game searching. Our forefathers did no longer ignore to place regulations on inner maximum possession, they did it as to arm the human beings as a defense force in case of the pick for conceal of homestead and united states against all invaders, distant places or kin, and in case of the pick of overthrowing a corrupt government. is this in all likelihood why the government desires to disarm us, by way of fact they're corrupt and worry the rag tag defense force?

Blame the tool! It took 19 men with box cutters to bring on the events of 9-11, but no one jumped up to sue Stanley tools, or Target. If I misspell a word, is it the pens fault, should I sue Bic? When are we, "as a collective society" going to pull pull our heads out and start putting the blame on the criminal. He woke up that morning knowing what he was going to do. The shooter is to blame, no one else.

He didn't walk in and get it no questions asked. See the interview done with the guy who sold him the gun.
Prevention in this instance should have been done a long time before he bought the gun. Given the description of the guy and his actions, people at Virginia Tech dropped the ball in getting this guy the help he needed. 30+ people are dead because they didn't step in in time.

You aren't...a LEGAL sale of a handgun requires the SELLER to make several checks as to who the buyer is and what his background is. Check into the Legal purchase and Legal weapons that a Citizen may purchase.

Obviously you have never bought a weapon. You have to have positive I.D., fill out forms, and be subjected to a background investigation. Where do you get your information from?
