When I had my pigs slaughtered the guy took a small caliber rifle and shot them between the eyes. This did not kill them it just knocked them out. He then slit the jugular vein and they bled to death.

I have only watched this be done so I am not positive but I can give you a general idea. This is for home slaughtering I have never been inside a professional slaughterhouse. First the hog must be shot in the head. It is then hoisted by the rear legs into the air. The throat is cut and you leave it hanging until it is bled out. at this time a long incision is made from genital openings to the throat and all the guts are removed, if I remember correctly it is then washed down with sprayer attachment on the hose and then dunked in a boiling kettle of water for a bit (5-10 minutes maybe) and then the skin and head is removed. At this point we begin cutting the various cuts of pork:roasts, ham, loins etc. we have never used the "waste" like feet, guts, head etc but some people do. After allowing the meat to cool it is then either frozen, hung to "smoke". placed in salt to cure, or ground for sausage. it can be sugar cured but i have never seen that either. It is gruesome to watch and usually you wait a week or so to eat any sausage to get the image out of your head, I am sure that I need correcting on some points but that is the gist of hog slaughtering

Hi. The most humane way is to use a stun bolt gun. This device looks a bit like a handgun but does not fire a projectile. A spring loaded bolt (rod) extends out a bit when the gun is fired, and is usually put to the animals head above th eyes. The are instantly renndered unconscious.

Why would you? Let the little fella live, he did nothing to you. You can get everything you need from a plant based diet. Look into his eyes.......he has feelings too!

Either shoot it in the head or hang it up and cut a vein and let it bleed out......
