if it is, why do community churchs have old age bingo?
wouldnt that be sending all the old folks and community members who volunteer there to hell?
or do we get to choose what type of gambling is a sin?
maybe bingo can stay, slots have to go, oh texas hold'em can stay, horse races have to go,

Gambling can be defined as “risking money in an attempt to multiply the money on something that is against the odds.” The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting, or the lottery. The Bible does warn us, however, to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). Scripture also encourages us to stay away from attempts to "get rich quick" (Proverbs 13:11; 23:5; Ecclesiastes 5:10). Gambling most definitely is focused on the love of money and undeniably tempts people with the promise of quick and easy riches.
1 Timothy 6:10 tells us, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." Hebrews 13:5 declares, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Matthew 6:24 proclaims, "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

Gambling is not mentioned in the Bible and so you can't say that the act of placing a bet is a sin. That having been said, there are many sins that gambling can lead to. If a person is trusting in "luck" if they are gambling because they don't trust in God ot meet their needs then they are engaging in worshipping another "god". If they are gambling because they love money then gambling is an expression of that sinful attitude. If they haven't paid all of their bills and brought an offering to the Lord and taken care of all of the needs of their family before taking money to gamble then they are not following Biblical guidelines for how to handle their money. If they have a complusion or an "addiction" to gambling then it is a practice that is fighting to take God's place as the Lord of their life.

Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Romans 13:7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. 8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Ephesians 5:5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

First of all, I lot of people use the fact that people in the Bible cast "lots", as a means to support gambling. "Lots" were cast to make decisions, not to gamble. The Bible says that God controls the "lots". He directs them, through the lots, to help them make decisions. (Proverbs 16:33) The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD. The Bible teaches us to be good stewards. We are suppose to use our money wisely. Gambling doesn't follow under those guidelines.

Yes. You shouldn't tempt fate.
They do it because they are sinners. Religion is not necessarily true. Most religious institutions are hypocrites.
