I have 2 friends who have decided to go religious. Which is fine - everybody needs something to believe in and I would never knock their decision. In fact, I thought maybe I should actually try to read the bible. I'm on the first page and I already have questions.....

First of all, why does God say he would make human beings in OUR image to be like US. Who is "us"?

Then as I read the Adam and Eve part, I wondered why God was smart enough to make the plants bear seeds to grow more plants, but didn't initially make a man AND a woman so human would reproduce. That makes no sense to me. AND he gave Adam animals as companions first? I just can't believe if he's so intelligent why he wouldn't create man and woman at the same time. Otherwise, making just Adam gives me the idea he initially only had plans for one human. It just doesn't make any sense. And this is why I have issues with the Bible. I can't even get past the first page without finding things that simply don't add up.

Yes, God said Adam needed a companion. So that is my question! He made plants able to reproduce when he made them, but yet he didn't make it so for humans to reproduce until he realized Adam needed a companion. That makes no sense. If there were any truth to that story, he would have made man and woman at the same time and there wouldn't have been a moment when he "realized" Adam needed a friend!!

I am not sure what you are reading, but in the book of Genesis (the Bible), the very first command that God gives to the man and the woman after they are created is in Genesis 2:28: "Be fruitful and multiple and fill the earth".

Sure sounds to me like he made them able to reproduce right from the start.

The idea that Adam and Eve were non-sexual and that the temptation in the garden was really "sex" has no basis in what is actually written in the book of Genesis. Trying reading it some time. You might be surprised what you actually find.

He didn't make man and woman in OUR image. He made Adam in OUR image. As a MALE of the species. The LORD was the hands that formed Adam and from out of Adam he brought Eve. The OUR is The Father (the Ancient of Days) and the Son (the Lord), the GOD head.

What you are reading is Moses' transcribing the events at a much later date as to how God explains to him it happened. There are points being made. That, man is the image God wants to relay that he is to be likened to. The woman is 'out of' man's need.

It isn't saying that God didn't begin the process without knowing he would create a woman as well. Niether is it saying a woman is not important. It IS saying that to the creation there is a hierarchy.

** We cant understand how God's realizations take place. I imagine it is instantaneous. The question as to whether there is any truth to it or not. it is neither true nor false in the explanation of how the event took place because it is allegorical. The realization was long before the actual creation. The plan could have started before the creation and the realization occured then. Don't view it as a scientific history book. Look at it like a journel after the fact. It wasn't created as a rule. The rule is that we were created.

You're first problem is trying to take the Bible literally. It's just a bunch of stories made up by a bunch of guys about 700 or so years ago (depending on if you're reading the new or old testament). Either way, it's just a story.

Think of it this way: The cow never jumped over the moon. That's just a story. Sleeping Beauty never pricked her finger on a spinning wheel. That's just a story. E.T is not real. And Tony Soprano is not actually a real person living in New Jersey.

These are all stories, including what is in the Bible, and need to be read as such, and not taken literally. Instead, read behind the messages in the Bible, and you'll find themes that cross over into every major religion on the planet, i.e., be nice to other people, help those less fortunate, treat people as you would want to be treated yourself . . . .

Just don't take those stories literally and all this will be much easier on you.

your questions are very important. I have heard answers in Judaism but I'm not sure i can answer you and explain what I've learned.

by the way according to what i was taught the first human created was "male and female in one" it was supposedly one body with both sexes...the female part I've learned is Lilith. the reason why god created the plants first and animals is because he wanted to create everything to be ready for man...and not the man first. like when you invite guests...usually the house is clean the food is ready and the table is set. I also know god asked Adam to name the animals so that he can feel by himself that it's no good to be alone and ask god for a partner...A lot of the things I've learned are the explanations on the "Torah" the Jewish bible.

He did make man and woman at the same time
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

The apparent problem is that it didn't work out ( there are those that believe adams first wife left him.) so that later, in the second chapter, god had to make another woman from his rib.
Its just one of those contradictions the bible is full of. This shouldn't be a problem to you if you accept the bible as metaphore. If you are trying to be a fundie however, you either have to stop reading or give up on the religion now.

I ‘m a retired Mech. Engineer. I even have additionally studied the sciences. Math; Physics; Chemistry; and so on, and so on. and that i've got continually marveled on the way technological expertise has developed. yet, to aim to comprehend the introduction of God is impossible. a good occasion is the combos of our components that make up each and every of the compounds in our finished universe. The Scientist; so a good distance have come across approximately one hundred thirty components that make up our existence. a number of those components integrate to make compounds. Others do no longer. some components have a similar electrons and protons as different components, yet won't form into compounds. that's what amazes the scientist. there's no clarification. As my chemistry professor as quickly as reported “ it extremely is the way God made it and all of us might desire to study it and commonplace.” Amen. As Jesus Christ reported “ no longer something is impossible to God”

"us", is the trinity...God the Father, Jesus the Son, and The Holy Ghost.
About Adam and Eve....You must have skipped over part of the first chapter of Genesis..
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image; in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

..."Us" is an early indication of the Trinity, or Triune God; God in Three Persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
...God is infinite, we are finite; you will have trouble and frustration if you try and fit God into what your mind can comprehend. He does not need our counsel, comprehension, or permission to do anything.
...Learn what the Scriptures teach, and submit to them; I cannot see any good purpose in all of these "why's", and besides God owes explanations to no one.

If he had plans for just one human, why would he make him a male in the first place, or female? If you just wanted one you would want an IT. Better to study here. http://evolution.berkeley.edu
