A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many
months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealers showroom,
and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all
he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his
father had purchased the car. Finally,on the morning of his
graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father
told him how proud he was to have such a fine son,and told him how
much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.
Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and
found a lovely,leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed
in gold.

Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said,"With all your
money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business.
He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father
was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him.

He had not seen Him since that graduation day.

But before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling
him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to
his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled
his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers
and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With
tears,he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had
carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, "And if ye, being evil, know
how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your
Heavenly Father which is in Heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible.
It had a tag with the dealers name, the same dealer who had the sports
car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the
words...
PAID IN FULL.

Read this in an e-mail a couple of weeks ago! Glad it got you thinking - because from the many responses I see in this sections, there are still many who doubt the existence of God. Perhaps, they are missing it because it does not come in the kind of packages they are expecting.

This is long so I will break it down for you. Another time a Son was away from home and his Father worried about him all the time as the son left angrily and the father had not seen him in years. The father was very ill and not expected to live a few years later and the son wanted to come home and ask for forgiveness of what he had done, and the father had given him a Bible years earlier for a present. the son called home when he got the news about his father, and his father told him he was welcomed back home but his time was short. The son asked the father for the money to get a bus ticket and the father told him that he had the means to buy one and always had. As time went on and the father passed away, the son arrived heart broken and was so sad and miserable that he was not there at his fathers passing and was grief stricken. The son remembered the Bible that his father had given him a few years earlier and opened it, and stuck between the pages was a Hundred Dollar bill with the words written on it, "I forgive you of everything because I love you and there is always a place for you here. The son broke down and cried as all he had to do was open the Bible and read it and the money would have fell out at his feet.

Yes yes a good story but it is about as likely to have happenned as Jesus curing a Leper or feeding 5000 people with only a couple of cod and a few slices of Kingsmill. Consider my heart untouched by your ramblings

So the rich brat still got the sports car...even though he was a jerk to his father and didn't follow the commandments? Sounds like a bad parable to me. The more evil in your hearts, the more you are rewarded.

And its not even like he deserved it in the end, or learned a lesson from it. Instead, after dad died--he went home to take the money that he felt entitled to. And found out his dad gave in to his selfishness. I don't see what moral lesson many of you are talking about.

Wonder what ever happened to it. I mean the father didn't sell it--but it seems he never picked it up either. I'm sure the dealership eventually had to get rid of it or charge you storage. If they resold it, he should get the money back from the dealership.

Yes, it's an interesting parable. But not for the reason you think.

The young man was only studying so that he could get his father to buy him the car. In the same way, Christians believe that they are only good because they want God to reward them with heaven.

Those of us who have no belief in heaven or hell do not need threats or promises to make us live good lives.

This story teaches a very valuable lesson. Good for you for posting it! No one should turn away a loving gift due to selfishness.
