I've been veggie all my life.

I avoid meat because...
it tastes nasty, smells nasty, and there's the ethics behind killing living animals. That's why I avoid it.

I avoid meat for the same reasons as you, especially because I think that animals should be treated WAY more humanely than they are right now. And I think that if someone wants to eat meat, they should buy it organically (they let the animals actually roam around and see the light of day and... live)

I very rarely eat meat anymore; I've basically stopped eating it at home because it's proved to be best for my wallet & my waistline. Also, I hate the whole 'meat factory' industry that most US meat comes from, and don't want to support it.

I do still eat seafood and from time to time will buy locally raised, grass fed meat at the farmers market, but only once in a blue moon.

Eating meat causes a lot of health problems, like it causes cancer, heart problems and gives rise to more bodily problems as you age. Far too many caucasians, especially the europeans consume too much meat or make meat the main focus of their meal. That's why they suffer a lot of heart problems and develop cancer very quickly.

Going green is healthier and cleaner both for the internal system and the external.

I avoid meat because, like you, my senses cannot take the icky-ness of it and I also feel bad for the animales who are killed (especially the way they are killed).
I also do it for health reasons - my family is pre-disposed to a lot of horrible health issues and I think that the only way to avoid it is to have a diet that is good for me - full of vitamins, minerals, and fresh food.
And finally, after researching evolution and animals v/s humans, I don't believe for ONE minute that (physiologically) humans are supposed to consume meat. Our bodies are just not made for it.
There's my two cents. :-)
Peace!

I turned vegetarian at age 12 because of the animal rights issue. I then turned vegan at age 14 once again for animals, but also for my health and the environment.

I am a vegan- but a steak smells terrific, lamb tasted great when I ate it. I always figured if you could kill it and prepare it yourself with your own bare hands- you can eat it. Otherwise it is cruel and lazy. The animals will take care of their own populations without our intervention.
But with todays processing being what it is- I do not trust anyone with the handling of my food- the less done to it the better.

(amen to Marine's comment above!)

i avoid it because it's totally unecessary and a living being (or 100 living beings if it's a hamburger) doesn't/don't need to die so i can eat.

why can people stand the sight of raw meat in their refers with the bones and blood and all, and yet get grossed out at the thought of a person eating human flesh? i don't get it...
