I have copd and am on Duoneb inhaler and have Duoneb for breathing machine which is great. Also take Singulair and Advair. You need to see a pulmonary doctor and get on meds programmed for you. It usually takes a while to figure out which meds work best for you. You have to be taking something to control this. It is really important. There is also a new drug Spiriva, did not work for me, but I know some people who swear by it.

Monty, it's chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.(or disease))
it covers a multitude of things, but includes such stuff as asthma, bronchitis, ermphysema,--- anything which prevents or interferes with proper breathing.

The doctor who specializes in this is a pulmonologist,
They are also called "intensivists" because they do help the people in intensive care who are on respirators. They also diagnose and treat sleep disorders.

I have asthma so I know how you feel! You really need to talk with your doctor about that. They can find you another inhaler that will work for you. Also, try to stay calm when you have your attacks. Panicking is only going to cause you to hyperventilate and make things worse. Seriously, call your doctor about that. You need to have an inhaler or some type of medication that will relieve your symptoms.

I take care of COPD patients in the hospital. Alot of these people take albuterol and atrovent nebulizers. Some take Xopenex. Also, some people benefit from steroids to help decrease inflammation. Perhaps you should see a lung specialist. There are many different meds you could be trying to help you!

Maybe you should check into seeing if you can get into a pulmonary rehab class, usually given through your local hospital. I've heard great things about them, afterwards some people with COPD can cut down on their use of meds and oxygen.

There are clinics that reteach you how to breathe correctly and increase the strength of your lungs through breathing exercises. my mom has this disease and it's horrible to watch and be able to help in no significant way. her doctor prescribes nerve pills to calm her attacks. good luck!
