Just once to stop the killing, fighting and separation of humankind that the question of his existence brings? Which in turn would save millions and more from hell for not being believers? If god just showed (himself) once and proved his existence, so many would believe and not have to burn in hell for all eternity. Why wouldn't a compassionate god do that..? Your thoughts christians? My fellow Atheists, please chime in as well!

Yes, I know the story of him revealing himself before, but why not again? Even if he just save one person from having to suffer in hell for eternity, why wouldn't he? But, you know so many more would accept him and believe. I'm Atheist people, I just want answers like the rest of us. I never get any clear-cut answers and it's always explained away as faith, free will or he doesn't have to do this or that. Are you saying he is that unmoved by the death and destruction going on that he wouldn't give in a little to save us? Just doesn't make sense!!!

Iblis_666 Very good point! That is my thought exactly and pretty much where I was going with this question. Anybody with a functioning brain who has ever sat down and really thought about it, can only come up with that conclusion...if there WERE a god. Thank you!

Betty Boop Oop A Doop I love your answer! Let's wait and see what they come up with in that month, I'm sure it will be really amusing! And, after that, all us Atheists can have a victory party with our own FREE WILL, without any of that god nonsense attached to it!

A fantasy can not be revealed. It is delusional. I'm going to give Christians one more month to come up with a God. That should give them plenty of time to show him. If they don't show me God by 6:45 Pm May 17 2007 then they will have to admit there is no God and we Atheists have been right all along . You hear that Christians you better get trucking.

This is almost drop dead funny.
Play me silly game.
You are camping in the mountains with your parents. You are comfortable but they have many rules and you want to explore so you take off into the woods. You get hungry and say "why am I hungry? My parents didn't make me a snack. They are jerks" Now you are mad and stop believing in your parents all together. You break your leg and say "If my parents really loved me and existed why don't they heal my leg?" (meanwhile search parties are out everywhere) You are irate and start to wonder why your parents just don't come and get you. You KNOW they don't exist now. Those parents. They are the problems with the whole world. I would not be suffering out here if they loved me. They are the cause for all my problems. Every once and a while a forest ranger will write an answer on Yahoo (WHOOPS) I mean walk up to you and you say "Go away you fascist jerks. If my parents really existed I wouldn't be here so miserable."

This is borderline insanity and yet millions of people have walked away from GOD and wonder why the world is so messed up. Where was GOD here? Where was GOD there? If GOD blah blah blah. GOD is sitting where he has always been. On the throne. Through Jesus Christ you can simply come home if you wish. If you do not want to come back home then you have done everything it takes to be right where you are.

An earnest answer for an earnest question.

He reveals himself all the time - the stars declare the glory of God & he is seen in all of his creation. The human body is a wonder that our modern medicine & science are just starting to realize.
There are modern miracles & healings that occur as well.

But of course, those are not what you meant. You want to know why does he not poke his head through the clouds & say I'm here.

Because with God you must first believe before you see - just the opposite of the devil, who will allow you to see so that you may believe. Now we're getting down to the foundation of Christianity, faith.

Faith is a choice & you either believe or you don't. If you need to see something, it is not faith & you are vulnerable to deception.
You cannot believe all you see - I once saw a man make the statue of liberty disappear.....

Even if he revealed himself, you would find a reason not to believe if you are not ready to believe.
Besides, if God were to poke his head in & reveal himself, then someone would say, why doesen't he help this person or that situation. Where would he draw the line?

He gave us free will & a power of reasoning that no other creation on earth possesses. We create problems & then expect him to fix it?

One day he will be on earth, living & ruling, but that day is not here.
Forgive the over-simplification, but this time now is like a big testing ground where you have all you need to make a decision about what you belive.
Who wants to spend eternity with someone manipulated or you forced to be there?

The delay in his coming to rule earth is for our benefit, to give us more time to figure out what we believe.
Beware though, the devil will muddy up the water so the path is not easy to find.

This compassionate God sent God the Son, his only Son - which was more than poking your head through the clouds. This compassionate God does not condemn people to hell, it is a choice that is left up to each individule person - we condemn ourselves & it breaks his heart when his loving kindness is rejected.

By the way, when you refer to God, it is "He", no matter in Hebrew or in Greek, it is the masculine form of the word.

I think you are assuming that this God would want to stop the killings. Based on what is in the bible about this God I'd say he is perfectly fine with all the death.

Why ruin a perfectly evil thing. After all it isn't as if he is going to be blamed for it! Even if he has the power to stop it and refuses to! God isn't Evil no just misunderstood.

I guess he had a rough childhood!

God is showing himself, but so is Lucifer.Read the bible so you get more understanding. All hell is going to break loose when Jesus comes for his believers, then no one can stop the evil that will happen on earth, once the intercessors are gone to be with him for eternity. You can think the bible is a fable, people laughed at Noah. But when the floods came they begged to go with him.God will tarry through his people for a time, but I guarantee you we will disappear, the government will make up all kinds of excuses as to how these disappearances acquired.Read the bible and receive Christ,as it is a matter of life and death.Read the book of Revelation and ask God for revelation as it does not make sense if you do not have the Holy Spirit living in you.If you want the Holy Spirit you have to confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior. If this gospel offends you so did Jesus. But he still died for you and me,no one knows when we will die,but you can know where you will spend eternity.

The answer to that is quite simple. God created us so that there would be someone to worship Him. But it would be all too easy if He just gave us the knowledge of His existence. Then we would be nothing more than automatons and it would defeat the whole purpose.

By not fully revealing Himself, He gives us the choice to worship or not, and thus when someone does choose to worship Him of their own free will, it means infinitely more.

Or so I imagine it would be were there a God. I'm an Atheist myself.

I really don't think most people would follow Him. They might admit for the first time that He exists, and might follow for a brief period, but before long they would choose a life lived in defiance to Him. It's just human nature not to want to give up a sinful lifestyle since sin is so obviously pleasurable. And most people would not sacrifice pleasure to follow God, even if they knew with certainty He existed.

So I don't think it would have much impact on stopping killing or evil. God would have to intervene directly to do that. Short of that, people are going to do what they are going to do, God or no God...consequences or no consequences.

Yes, that would be the appropriate thing for a god (a being worthy of worship that is) to do. There may be an infrastructure problem though... what if there's not enough room in heaven for everyone? If that's the case he'd have to make life one big April Fool's joke just to keep the smart people out. Ignorant people are more manageable in large numbers.

Once one understands the purpose of this earthly existence and why we are here in the first place, then it is easy to understand why God doesn't just appear and take care of everything. If we had a few weeks of honest sincere discussion it might be possible to scratch the surface of life's purpose and reach a common accord, but this venue does not really permit that.

God showed himself to Moses, Jacob, Isaiah, and More recently, Joseph Smith who was persecuted and killed for his belief. If God did show himself today, would you believe it or be another of the long list of persecutors of the truth? Why is it that everyone wants to blame God for everything that goes wrong?
