If so, can you please tell me what you prefer to eat. I'm really trying to store up ideas. Right now, i'm trying it out for a week, but i'm not sure what a vegetarian diet lacks. I can probably dig all of this up on the internet, but i realize that it's easier to ask people who are experienced on the subject and have experienced it themselves

Well let me just say, as you may already know, someone who eats fish, IS NOT a vegetarian!

Second, here is some stuff I like to eat:
Breakfast:
Cereal (whole grain/ fibrous cereals... fills me up :)
^ With vanilla soymilk... yum
Coffee (with vanilla soymilk and raw sugar) just thought I would add that...lol
Other times I just eat fruit and coffee.
Also I take a Multi- Vitamin specifically with vitamin B 12 in it in the morning after I eat. (You can really only get vitamin B12 from meat sooo that is something that the vegetarian diet lacks)

Lunch:
Apple and a little natural peanut butter, I recommend natural because the other crap has partially-hydrogenized oils and junk in it, plus natural (even though it may cost a little more) is worth getting cause it tastes a hell of a lot better.

Snack:
Fruit/ sometimes home made veggie broth/ pretzels are good sometimes/ maybe some chocolate soymilk

Dinner: (some things I might usually eat for dinner)
Salads with olive oil and lemon juice
Whole wheat pasta
Soup
Veggies (what ever is in my fridge :)
Brown rice and peas with lemon juice and olive oil (and salt and pepper)
Beans in anything, chick peas, black beans, pinto beans, those little white beans (cannelloni beans or something), kidney beans... I love them all! lol
There are lots of great recipes for things on the internet; I'll give you some good links.
Also If you are eating a good balanced diet (paying attention to all the nutrients you are getting)
Then protein is something you really won’t have to worry about. (Beans and all that crap, they all have plenty of protein)
And calcium is another one of those things you may think that you are lacking but if you are drinking soymilk then you are getting all of the nutrition of cow’s milk without the saturated fat and cholesterol.
And Iron you can get from vegetables like spinach (which by the way is awesome)

It depends on how strict of a vegetarian you are - if you are just forgoing the flesh of animals then it lacks the cruelty, torture and death that comes along with a meat eating diet. If you are also giving up animal secretions (dairy) and reproductive wastes (eggs) then it will also lack saturated fat , cholesterol, pus, and growth hormones.
It should also lack the guilt that comes along with contributing to the senseless slaughter of approximately 10 BILLION animals a year.
So either way, GOOD FOR YOU!!
Eating vegetarian can be really exciting - try not to focus on what you can't have and see it as an opportunity to try new foods and combinations...
Of course you can try all the meat alternatives like "Boca Burgers" and "MorningStar Farms"
And I swear I have never even met a meat eater that didn't rave about "Gardenburger Riblets" once they've tasted them. And then there are the oh-so-yummy "Tofurkey" products like Italian Sausages, Keilbasa and Deli Slices.
They really are wonderful foods when you want the "taste" of meat - and don't feel bad if you do have a craving - you've been eating meat for a long time, I assume, and it takes a while to break old habits. Just stick with it and you'll soon feel comfortable.
But I also suggest that you eat some natural whole foods -- your favorite fruits as a snack or a dessert, some sauted veggies with a few nuts, or some nutritional yeast tossed on top, Baked Potatoes can be stuffed with amazing variety - I love black beans and green chilis. Stir-fry with pasta instead of rice and lots of garlic and ginger. Oatmeal - not only a good breakfast choice but a good comforting late night treat.
I actually make up lots of Pasta early in the week and keep it in the fridge - it makes dinners a breeze and still leaves lots of room for variety - top it with traditional marinara, stir fried veggies, vegetarian chili, - make a pasta salad with some italian dressing and a few veggies of your choice.
And no modern vegetarian list would be complete without Veggie Pizzas and "Taco Bell Bean Burritoes"

i have been a vegetarian for 10 years. As a vegetarian its really important to choose nutritious foods because it is easy to live off of junk like grilled cheese and fries... a vegetarian diet really isnt that different from a normal diet. You should still get your nutrients from fruits and vegetables, whole grains from wheat bread and crackers, protein from beans and nuts and lots of soy. I absolutely love boca burgers and morning star chicken nuggets which are fake meat...they are delicious and a healthier way of eating than eating real meat.
And also...the comment below said that green vegetables are the healthiest...that is wrong. The darkest vegetables are the healthiest and most nutrient dense. Typically, one should eat around 5 different colors of fruits and vegetables each day to maintain a nutritious diet.

alright a vegetarian avoid gelatin, fish, poultry and red meat. i am a vegan which means i avoid all the above and dairy and egg products and any animal by products. i'll tell you what i eat on a daily basis.

breakfast- oatmeal with almond, oat or rice milk. for sweetness i sometimes buy the vanilla flavor of the rice or almond milk. a piece of fruit.

since im in school i bring a pb&j sandwhich to school to hold me until i get home

for a snack i make a fruit smoothie with a banana, bubbly water and a serving of a frozen fruit or i have a cup of (vegan) soup.

dinner can be anything, like vegan tacos (i make spanish rice and beans rather than using meat)

if you want to know anything else just email me :)

Here are some of the things I eat in a regular basis:
Fibre cereals in the morning w/ rice milk
LOTS of fresh fruit and veggies (like bananas, apples, pineapple, tossed salads {with all the trimmings!, minus the dressing})
Whole wheat pasta (sometimes in spaghetti form, sometimes fun-shaped noodles w/ pesto)
Black bean burritos
Veggie quesadillas
Various soups
Anything with artichokes (like mushrooms, artichokes tend to take accept a bold role in a main dish)
I hope that helps and good luck with your dry run!

Well, I'm a picky vegetarian (no fish, and only milk and eggs if it is in something). I typically eat a lot of fruits, veggies, bread, tofu, and pasta. Pretty much I eat the same basic meals, and just change the meat with something else. (Veggie burgers for meat balls, tofu for other meats, chic patties for chicken, and so on)

Vegetable soups with beans and a slice of crusty bread on the side. Tofu with BBQ sauce or apricot glaze. Fake hotdogs. Salad made with baby arugula, chunks of avocado and pepitas (shelled pumpkin seeds) and raspberry vinegrette dressing. Egg sandwich on english muffin (eggs are from my father in law's chickens, so no factory farm issues).

Considering even egg as non-veg, you can be a strict vegetarian. Have pulses, cereals, vegetables, fruits, milk & milk products (curd, butter, ghee, etc.).

Actually, its not lacking in anything at all. You will be perfectly alright.
