I went to my doctor recently and he sent me home with a glucometer to test my blood sugar levels. Whenever I was feeling symptomatic I would take my blood sugar. Most of the time when I was symptomatic the reading would come out to the range of 64-72. Is this considered low? I have a follow up appointment on Thursday, but I was just curious as to whether this is a level that would make me slightly hypoglycemic, and would explain the symptoms I keep having.

I am not so sure on American readings so I would certainly follow Jay's advice on appropriate levels. It doesn't take whole lot to throw your body off and you "know" you know when u do not feel not right. I aways say, look up symptoms, risk factors and read up on how to curb them..ie:diet and exercise. But really know your stuff before Thurs, write down all your questions and concerns to get the right information and you'll get piece of mind. because it is extremely overwhelming when you are actually sitting with your doc...I always draw a blank!! Pick up some glucose tablets and jelly beans for when your out and a diatbetic "snack pack" at home. (nothing like a stash on hand of treats!) Pre-diabetic or type two can be really manageable and there is for long term a whole lotta hope sucess in treatment and lifestyle alterations. Have hope, be knowledge able and know that this can so much be in your hands as how to control i. I do admit that stress and illness do not help BGL, but so many modifications could give you the control.and with that comesr your own sense of empowerment. One last note: of you are diabetic, write quick reference notes put them on the fridge, educate family and friends in case you need help, and get a medical alert right way. Its the seemingly little things that make huge differences. Best of luck with your visit. www.dotdiabetes.com drop in and bring a cup of coffee.

considering the normal reading should be 80 to 120 mg/dL you should see your doctor immeadiatly because this is realy quite low if someone walked in to my consult room and showed readings like that i would have them straight upstairs to monitor what their diet is like and what times of day they eat and what time of day they feel symtomatic as well as having the blood monitored. i mean sure peaple wonder just outside the boundries but 8-16mg outside the normal it quite considerable.
